It\u2019s trademark Lauren Blakely \u2013 fun, sexy, romantic and heartfelt, and completely engaging from start to finish. I absolutely fell in love with Ryder and Nicole, and I thought their story was gorgeous.<\/p>\n Nicole is 30 years old and has started to feel the pull of motherhood. She badly wants to have a baby, but she has no romantic options on the horizon, and actually isn\u2019t sure she\u2019s capable of love and a long-term relationship. So she figures that her best option is to get a sperm donor. The trouble is, she wants to know what she\u2019s getting, so she decides to approach her colleague and good friend, Ryder to see if he would be able to assist.<\/p>\n Ryder ironically provides relationship advice on the radio and also writes a column. Ironic because he had his heart shattered when his wife cheated on him (repeatedly) and he has since sworn off love and completely lost his work mojo. When his gorgeous colleague asks him for the ultimate favour, he not only wants to help her, but he figures they could both benefit from the arrangement by doing it the old fashioned way.<\/p>\n Nicole is a brave, bold, beautiful woman who\u2019s unafraid to carve out a life on her own terms. Ryder and Nicole are amazing together. They are both straightforward and no-nonsense, and they have fantastic chemistry. Their arrangements are very quickly made and when they get down to business the sexy time is hot, passionate, and better than anything either of them have ever had before. And they throw themselves into not only the babymaking, but also experimenting with dating options to help Ryder out with his column.<\/p>\n I fucking love that we\u2019re not playing games. There\u2019s something incredibly freeing about this kind of relationship. Maybe this is the way it should be\u2014 clear and easy.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Predictably, the lines very quickly begin to blur, and I loved every moment of watching everything begin to shift for them. The story is written in dual POV so we get to see exactly what they are at, and the development of their relationship is natural and beautiful, and I felt the change right along with them.<\/p>\n We were supposed to be practical. A wham, bam, thank-you ma\u2019am. We weren\u2019t supposed to miss the sex, or the closeness, or the cuddling when this ends.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The pregnancy storyline is gorgeously written with just the right mix of romanticism and reality, and it ties in perfectly with the development of the love story. It all unfolds beautifully as Ryder and Nicole come to terms with what they\u2019re feeling and open themselves up to each other, and I loved watching them fall for each other so honestly and easily.\u00a0 And wow, but Ryder completely melted me!\u00a0 There\u2019s low drama and only tiny bit of angst, but it works to build up to an absolutely epic ending that had me swooning madly at the heart-clenching romance.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not just in love with the baby \u2013 I\u2019m in love with the woman. Mad, passionate, she\u2019s-the-one love.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n I loved this book. I was hooked from start to finish, and I completely fell in love with Ryder, Nicole and their story. It\u2019s sweet, beautifully romantic and super-hot with a gorgeous epilogue that finishes everything off beautifully, and I finished this book with a huge, big cheesy grin on my face and hugging my kindle.<\/p>\n Gorgeous! 4.5 stars.<\/p>\n An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.<\/i><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHow does it work?\u201d I ask. \u201cThe whole donation process.\u201d<\/p>\n She stabs a carrot slice, chews, and swallows. \u201cWell, there\u2019s this thing guys do when they\u2019re horny. It\u2019s called\u201d\u2014she glances furtively from side to side\u2014\u201cjacking off.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m well aware of how the protein shake is made. What I mean is, are we talking about one of those little rooms you go into?\u201d I ask, since what man doesn\u2019t have an image of a jerk-off chamber? \u201cWith magazines or porn or whatnot?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYes, they schedule the donors for forty-minute sessions in them.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m more efficient than that, but that\u2019s good to know.\u201d I take another bite and chew. I set down the burger. \u201cSo, a nurse or orderly would escort me to a special room, and then I\u2019d need to drop my \u201cA plastic sample cup. With a top,\u201d she says, and I\u2019m kind of amazed that she\u2019s answering every question like a champ. No blushing, no stammering.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat do they provide for entertainment? Laptops? Computers? Or is it old school with Playboy?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey provide pornographic material in printed form as well as video on a TV screen.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAwesome. So I just choke the chicken in a room with a ton of other dudes going at it in their own rooms, too. Hand a cup to the nurse. She seals up the goods. Then, what\u2019s next?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey do tests on your swimmers.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ll pass. Then you come in, maybe the same day, maybe a few days later?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSame day. We\u2019d have to time everything to my cycle and when I\u2019m ovulating.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFine, so they undress you, prop you up on an exam table, and stick a turkey baster into you?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou paint a lovely picture of the process.\u201d<\/p>\n I hold up a hand, waving her off. \u201cWait. I\u2019m not done. You\u2019re in nothing but a hospital gown. The doc tells you to put your cute little feet in stirrups, and they stick that baster up inside what I am sure is an absolutely gorgeous and heavenly home,\u201d I say, because if she can complement my tadpoles, I can say something nice about the paradise between her legs. She mouths a thank you. \u201cAfter the boys make the upstream trip, they send you home.\u201d I mime patting her on the rear and then sending her out the door.<\/p>\n \u201cI think you\u2019ve got the basic idea.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd after that?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s all,\u201d she says. \u201cThat\u2019s all I\u2019d want you to do. I don\u2019t expect or want any involvement. I\u2019d have all the paperwork drawn up in advance saying there are no legal rights, responsibilities, or expectations of parenting, and no financial commitments required.\u201d<\/p>\n I\u2019m almost ashamed to admit it, but that\u2019s the clincher for me\u2014the lack of involvement. If I\u2019m ever going to raise a child, I\u2019m damn well going to do it right. The whole nine yards, two parents, just like my mom and dad raised my brother, my sister, and me.<\/p>\n Nicole isn\u2019t asking me to sign up for daddy duty, though. She doesn\u2019t want me to help with diaper detail or\u00a0midnight<\/span>\u00a0feedings.<\/p>\n She\u2019s a friend asking for the help she needs so she can then do those things on her own.<\/p>\n And helping a friend seems like something I should consider.<\/p>\n Fine, she\u2019s asking for a hell of a lot more than a dude to put together an IKEA TV stand, and those things are beyond Da Vinci Code-level cryptic. I\u2019d like to see Robert Langdon decipher some IKEA assembly instructions. Good luck with that, Harvard symbologist.<\/p>\n I like Nicole. I respect the dickens out of this woman. I want to take her request as seriously as she\u2019s asking it. \u201cCan I have a few days to think about it?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOf course.
