When I started, it wasn&#8217;t beautiful at all.\u00a0 In fact, it was ugly and heavy and a pain in the ass to get in my truck.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone laughed, and I winced and muttered an apology for my language.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSo tell us about this particular sculpture.\u201d Wilson ignored the laughter and continued, refocusing the class. \u201cYou called it &#8216;The Arc&#8217; \u2013 which I found fascinating.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI find that if something is really on my mind . . . it tends to come out through my hands.\u00a0 For whatever reason, I couldn&#8217;t get the story about Joan of Arc out of my head.\u00a0 She appealed to me,\u201d I confessed, slanting a look at Wilson, hoping he didn&#8217;t think I was trying to butter him up.\u00a0 \u201cShe inspired me.\u00a0 Maybe it was how young she was.\u00a0 Or how brave.\u00a0 Maybe it was because she was tough in a time when woman weren&#8217;t especially valued for their strength.\u00a0 But she wasn&#8217;t just tough . . . she was . . . good,\u201d I finished timidly.\u00a0 I was afraid everyone would laugh again, knowing that \u201cgood\u201d was not something that had ever been applied to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The class had grown quiet.
