There is no halfway when it comes to love.”

Once upon a time Emerson Reeves and Grant Malone were best friends. Then one day, Grant revealed a life changing secret setting into motion a series of events that forced Emerson out of his life. Fast forward twenty-plus years, Grant is a police officer and hasn’t seen Emerson since that day back in grade school. When he unexpectedly bumps into her it’s like seeing a ghost. He is shaken but it’s nothing compared to how Emerson feels when she sets her eyes on the man who broke her heart when they were just kids. What happens when Grant wants to get to know the woman Emerson has become and Emerson can’t push him away fast enough?

Cuffed is an emotional story about healing, forgiving, and second chances. Well-written and captivating, it drew me in from the start. I loved the way the story unfolded. The prologue reveals just enough to make questions churn in your head but not enough that you know exactly what happened. As each part slowly exposes the truth, I became more invested in the characters’ lives and desperately wanted their second-chance to be a happy one.

Grant and Emerson are not perfect. They are flawed, hurting and so much more than what they show the world. They are well developed and the dual POVs gave us insight into their true nature making it easy to love them.

Grant is sweet, sexy, and fun all wrapped up in a hot uniform. He is delicious and swoon worthy, and just like the series name, Grant is an everyday hero. I loved watching him on duty. The commitment to his cases and the love for his job and helping people warmed me completely. He’s a genuinely good guy who isn’t afraid to stick up for what he believes and won’t give up without a fight.

Emerson was such an important part of his childhood and I felt how affected he is when he sees her again. The longing, sorrow, confusion, and pain he feels when it comes to the best friend he lost is sincere. I loved that he understands her, knowing what she needs, and that he isnt’t afraid to be with her. He believes in Emerson and truly loves her for all she is, including the good, the bad, and everything in between.

What she really needs is to know what I see when I look at her.
She needs to see the beauty in her ugly.

Emerson is a complicated character and her vulnerabilities make her real. I felt the pain she endured and the lasting effects of her past. She is brave and strong, overcoming unimaginable pain, yet I understood her fears. She has trust issues and I sensed all the emotion she experienced when her world flips upside down the moment Grant reappears in her life. Her reaction is well-written and palpable; she’s overcome so much and doesn’t want to fall back into her dark past.

Don’t think about him…He is from before. I’m only about the now.

There is something about Grant that lights her up though. I loved watching the walls she built around her heart begin to crumble as she takes a chance on the boy from her past.

The moment Emerson allows Grant back into her life they fall into a comfortable and easy friendship. Tension simmers until they can’t stay away any longer, and it was intense and passionate, but I could feel Emerson’s fear and confusion growing. Thank goodness Grant never gives up. He is honest and committed to making her understand what she means to him even as they hit some major roadblocks.

This story is a great mix of heat and heart and even has some well-placed humor. There were some seriously funny scenes that had me laughing-out-loud and I loved that it lightened the seriousness of the storyline. The epilogue is sweet and I loved how things played out. I also loved the snippets we get of Grady and Gray, who seem like a lot of fun. They make up part of the close knit Malone family, and their roles in this story give us a great set up for the next two books, Combust and Worth the Risk.
