Noe Lee has lived on the streets of The Point since she ran away from an abusive home. Using only her wits and intelligence, she has not only survived, but she has helped others escape situations similar to hers. But the latest person she helped free from a bad situation has ties to the corrupt Mayor, putting Noe directly in his sights and facing great danger.

With nowhere else to turn, Noe approaches Snowden Stark – a genius tech guru who can do pretty much anything with a computer. Stark’s past is traumatic and devastating, he has lost everything and has been forced to go underground to protect himself. He’s genius-level intelligent, and has put his skills to work to protect the innocent and bring down those who get away with hurting them. And when Noe finds herself in danger, Stark is there for her in a way that nobody else ever has been, and he puts himself on the path to seek vengeance for all that she has been through.

“What makes you think this is a fight we can win?”
“Because I can’t afford to lose again.”

Stark and Noe are really intriguing characters. They’ve been through hell but they’ve come through it, and though they are both hiding from their pasts, they devote themselves to helping others and righting wrongs, both of them with a strong sense of justice. And as strong as powerful as they are individually, together they are a powerhouse. Intelligent and driven, they team up to bring down the bad guy, and everything between them begins to change.

“Sometimes you find the person who makes you want more, and you have to decide how much you’re willing to give.”

I enjoyed the dynamic between these two. There’s a bond there from the very beginning, and the sexual tension builds as their attraction develops. And more than just the physical, there’s a genuine emotional connection that develops as they open up to each other and begin to fall.

“I don’t have much … but I want to give all to you.”

This is a great romance – sweet, sexy and blessedly functional – and there’s just something so satisfying about a huge, tattooed, closed-off badass getting all protective and possessive over a tiny girl that he claims as his own. And I love that despite her tiny, fragile appearance, Noe is actually a badass all on her own, and Stark accepts and embraces that about her. And in return she brings him back to life and lays her claim right back.

“I needed to go so he could bring me back. Show me my place in life. In this big, bad world. And once he had me, I was going to help him find his heart…because that elusive, tricky thing was mine.”

But the bad guys aren’t giving up, and Noe and Stark will need to face up to more demons from the past before it’s all over.

I enjoyed this book. It didn’t grab me as much as the first book in the series, Honor, did, but it’s fast-moving and intriguing, and of course the romance was great. I loved the involvement of characters not only from Honor, but also the Welcome to the Point series (though I haven’t read that series, I was easily able to keep up with everything). And the hints dropped for future books have me eager for more.

3 stars.

The Breaking Point

<div data-post-id="28618" class="insert-page
