Review<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Having read book 1 of this series, Knight & Play<\/a>, I thought I knew exactly what to expect going in \u2013 SMUT. And yep, I got it! But what I didn\u2019t expect was a deeply emotional book that broke my heart and left me swooning with a huge, ridiculous grin on my face.<\/p>\n

The book starts off by revisiting the epic ending to the last book, as our heroine, Sophie’s life implodes on her. It then picks up a week later just as she decides to scrape herself off the couch and piece her life back together. Although she hasn\u2019t seen them, neither Dan, her cheating bastard husband, or Lucien, her sexy ex-lover and boss, are out of the picture, and when Lucien throws her a lifeline, with nowhere else to turn, she returns to her job at Knight Industries as his PA.<\/p>\n

The big bonus with this book is that we get Lucien\u2019s POV. And it is awesome getting inside the head of the deliciously fucked up, sex-on-a-stick, as he experiences things for Sophie that he has never felt before, but adamantly keeps things purely physical. Although he isn\u2019t so oblivious that he denies their attraction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe plain fact was that this thing between them wasn\u2019t just basic chemistry. It was lethal, combustible dynamite.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Working together, it doesn\u2019t take long for the flirting, banter, and inappropriate-for-the-office touching to start up, so Sophie imposes strict rules on Lucien in order to keep things strictly professional. Of course, this only serves to ramp up the sexual tension even higher, and from the minute they decide to throw the rules out the window it\u2019s all on\u2026 anywhere, everywhere, anyhow. HOTTTTNESSSS!!!! And it just goes on\u2026 and on\u2026 and on! OMG, my kindle was steaming! Well done to Kitty French for keeping it interesting though! Quite often with smutty books it all gets very repetitive, and while there is a lot of sex, it never felt monotonous. There\u2019s feeling and emotion behind it, and the dual POV switches things up quite nicely.<\/p>\n

And then there are the feels. It\u2019s inevitable, and you know it\u2019s coming, but the way<\/u> it happens is beautiful! I love that we got both of their POVs, because watching Lucien fall for Sophie had me clutching my heart!\u00a0 And then seeing him come to realise it, and his intense reaction to fight against it just blew me away. Lucien is terrified of what he feels and refuses to take things further and watching him fight his emotions is absolutely heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cDon\u2019t say it again \u2026 Because I won\u2019t say it back\u201d \u2026
\n\u201cI know that too\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to feel this Sophie. Like I\u2019ve led you on, or like I can\u2019t be with anyone else. \u201c
\n\u201cLucien, you said yourself that you don\u2019t want to be with anyone else!\u201d
\n\u201cYes, and you have no idea how much that fucks me off. Don\u2019t you get it, Sophie? I don\u2019t want these feelings, or these cravings.\u201d He splayed his hand on his chest. \u201cIt\u2019s not who I am.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t what I do,\u201d he said, scrubbing his hands over his face. \u201cI don\u2019t want this.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And I love that Sophie is prepared to fight for the man she loves, desperate to draw him out. During her time with Lucien, he taught her to be confident, and powerful, and she had me cheering as she opens up to him and totally lets him have it!<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want <\/i>me. And I\u2019m here, now, saying I want you too, saying I love you, and I don\u2019t know where the hell it\u2019ll end up, but I\u2019m brave enough to say that right now you\u2019re my everything. You\u2019ve opened my eyes, and my body, and my heart so much more than I knew existed, and you make me feel beautiful, and protected, and adored, and I don\u2019t think you could do all of those things if you didn\u2019t love me back.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Honestly, I was really surprised at the emotion pouring off the pages, and how deeply it got to me. I felt so much for both of them, and I couldn\u2019t put the book down as Sophie and Lucien battle to deal with their pasts, overcome their demons and discover exactly who they are and what they want.<\/p>\n

I really loved this book. It is a fantastic finish to Sophie and Lucien\u2019s story, and there is gorgeous (and smutty! Imagine that!) epilogue to finish the story off beautifully.<\/p>\n
