He is a reclusive writer who lives his life to a strict routine, including daily three-hour workouts at the gym. And that is where he meets Iris.

Iris is a confident, gorgeously sexy and perky 24 year old. She lives her life on the wild side (pardon the pun), and when she starts coming on to Dair at the gym, he is both outrageously turned on and very confused. What would an outgoing, sex-on-legs bombshell want with a boring, socially awkward 40 year old? Well, she makes it glaringly obvious that she wants sex, and after getting over his initial disbelief, Dair is more than happy to oblige.

“The first time, I’m going to take you against the front door, because that is as far as we’re going to make it before I bury my cock in that tight little c**t of yours.”

Yeah, there’s no shyness going on here. These two are attracted to each other, and they act on it. Over, and over, and over again. Anything, anywhere, any place, any time. And oh holy hell, it’s dirty, and it’s HOT!

Iris pretty much invites herself into Dair’s life, and apart from all of the near-constant and mind-blowing sex, they talk, they have fun, and they enjoy spending time together. But Iris never opens up about her personal life. Dair knows practically nothing about her, and he’s not stupid. He has suspicions about her and why she is with him, but their time together is giving him something he has never had, and he is too happy in the moment to consider her motivations too much.

Simple physical affection was a new development for me. And the fact that I enjoyed it was a revelation.
It made me feel good. It made me feel contented, happy even. These were new things for me.
Feeling good had never been a high priority for me, screwed up as that was.
Perhaps I needed to change some of my priorities . Perhaps it was time to start enjoying my life, instead of just working through it.
And slowly, sweetly, Iris was teaching me something about that.
I decided then and there that I wanted to let her.

The story is told completely from Dair’s POV, so we are experiencing the ‘relationship’ right along with him. I really like him as a character. He’s not an alpha, he’s just a genuine guy – somewhat shy and awkward, he has his vulnerabilities, and I enjoyed seeing him open up a bit to Iris. Despite his growing obsession with her, he seems stuck on the age gap between them, and thinks of himself as an old man which seemed a little ridiculous given that he’s only 40. But the fact that it’s such an issue for him plays into the story, and forms a big part of the differences between them, and when things hit a head between them and he lets his uncertainties out – things get really intense!!!

She was young. I was old.
She was wild.
I was tame.
What on earth were we doing here? How the hell would we ever fit into each other’s lives.
The answer was simple and bleak. We didn’t and we wouldn’t.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a quick, steamy read with a bit of intrigue and a cliffhanger ending that builds the anticipation for the continuing story. I, too, am suspicious of Iris’ motives. I suspect she’s a complicated character, and I’m looking forward to finding out what is going on with her and watching things between them develop as I read on with the series.

4 steamy stars.

The Wild Side serial novellas

<a
