This is a brand new story that fills in the blanks during Trip and Layla’s separation while still bringing all the magic moments of the two of them together.

It is highly recommended–but not required–that you read Remember When prior to reading TRIP.

Review

Absolutely fantastic!

4.5 stars

This is such a fun read! A-retelling of the fabulous Remember When, but this time from the POV of teen hero Trip Wilmington (soon to be mega movie-star). This is a sweet, heartfelt, teen-angsty, romantic and sexy story of a high school love story between two souls who were definitely meant to be.

Trip has just moved to new Jersey with his parents for his father’s work. No stranger to moving and starting over, his home life may be difficult but he is easygoing, smart and mature for his years, and he throws himself into his senior year of high school, easily becoming one of the popular crew. And then he meets Layla Warren. Beautifully and witty, Layla knocks him on his ass in every way possible, his attraction to her immediate and all-consuming, and I loved being in his head as we get to experience his crush in all of its teenaged-boy glory.

We actually made pretty great friends. It was kind of weird to think we’d only known each other for two weeks. It felt like I’d known her a lot longer. And I know she felt the same.
What can I say? Sometimes, when it comes to certain people, you just click.
I still wanted to suck her face, however.

The tricky thing is though, that Layla has an on-off boyfriend and Trip isn’t really sure where he stands with her, so he’s content to be her friend and get to know her, all the while hoping for something more.

As bad as my lips wanted to kiss her, my brain wouldn’t allow me to go through with it. Maybe it was the way her eyes were staring right through me. The way my heart was hammering out of my chest.
I never thought twice about it with other girls, but the thing was, Layla wasn’t just another girl. Something was different with her. Something that told me everything would change the first second our lips met. Not just everything between us, but everything in my life.

I love a good YA love story, and this one is gorgeous! Trip and Layla become the best of friends, and watching that develop was sweet and so much fun. The banter, teasing and joking is great, I love their sweet and deep moments, and you can feel the emotional connection between them as we follow them through ups and downs, and the confusing angst of hormonally-charged emotions. And then we get this beautifully developing romance, and when they finally reached the point where they made it happen I was in a world of swoony, teenage-loved-up bliss.

As I bounded out the kitchen door, I saw everyone milling about in the driveway, attempting to cram all our worldly goods into their respective vehicles. Layla was leaning against her car, the sunlight bouncing off her dark brown hair, and I swear to God, the world around her disappeared. I had tunnel vision as I walked straight toward her, dropped my bag on the ground, and pulled her to me for a kiss. I was pretty sure all our friends were watching and I didn’t care. I always knew this girl was created to be in my arms. It was about time everyone else realized it, too.

“You’re all I want, Lay. Just you.”

So swooooooony!!!!

But there’s so much more to this story than just a romance. It’s a coming-of-age story as Trip deals with the difficulties of his home life, and the direction of his future. His confusion is completely relatable as he tries to figure it all out, and I loved that we got to experience that with him. And set against the background of the late 80s, the sense of nostalgia just adds to the fun as Trip, Lalya and their friends tease, share and goof around, and get ready to head out into the big, wide world.

Tonight was marking the first of many goodbyes yet to come as we all took off in different directions across the map to live out the next chapters of our lives. Would we ever be in the same place like this ever again? Would we remember who we were to each other? Would we grow up and forget to be idiots?
Maturity blows.

I loved this book! When I started reading, I thought this was going to be the retelling of the entire trilogy in one book, and was honestly a bit disappointed when I started it and realised that it was only the first book and not the entire story. But the more I read, the happier I was because I freaking loved it! It’s been a while since I read Remember When and I had forgotten a lot of the details, so I love that we got so much of it here and I cannot WAIT to see the next two instalments brought to life by Trip because he is a master narrator for his story, and after that ending (which brought me to tears even though I knew it was coming), and knowing where things go from here, I need more!

“Don’t ever ask me to stop loving you, because I can’t. don’t ever think I’ll be able to forget you, because I won’t.

Such a great read, I loved it! 4.5 stars.

An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest I stood there paralyzed, conscious of nothing but the sensation of my heart actually lurching in my chest.

Huh. That was a new one.

Continue the story over at The Addicted Reader…

Amazon | Paperback Welcome to the scavenger hunt! By following this blog tour you can read the first three chapters of Trip!
