I was hooked from the very beginning as we are introduced to her latest unforgettable hero – badass hitman, Felix \u2018Fix\u2019 Marcosa \u2013 and I loved this fast-paced, exciting and surprising story.<\/p>\n I didn\u2019t know going in that this is the first book in a new trilogy, so be aware that it\u2019s not a standalone, and that there is a cliffy ending.<\/p>\n Sera Lafferty is in the middle of a cross-country road trip to get to her sister\u2019s wedding, when she gets stranded in the middle of a small town in the middle of nowhere due to bad weather. When she rocks up to the only place in town with available beds, she runs into fellow traveller, tall, dark and dangerous Fix Marcosa in the lobby, and when they discover that there is only one room available, they have no other choice but to share it.<\/p>\n From the very beginning, the dynamic between Fix and Sera is electric. The banter is quick, witty and so much fun, and influenced by their strong physical attraction to each other, and I laughed out loud at their fiery conversation and wicked teasing.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m gonna go to sleep soon. Don\u2019t even think about trying to climb into bed with me. It\u2019s a sure fire way of getting yourself castrated.\u201d Fix is, indeed, really fucking awesome. He\u2019s smart, funny and seriously sexy, and he has a take-no-shit, say it like it is mentality, which is lots of fun. And smartass Sera is right there with him, returning quips like a champion. And it\u2019s all so freaking entertaining!<\/p>\n \u201cMy dick\u2019s pretty fucking phenomenal. You should see it. Grown women have been known to weep when they behold it.\u201d The sexual tension is thick, and builds a delicious chemistry between them, and they end up sharing a hot and steamy encounter which rocks both of their worlds. But there is so much about Fix that Sera doesn\u2019t know. And when she realises exactly who and what he is, she knows she needs to get away\u2026. if only she could.<\/p>\n Fix. A creature made out of shadows and light. A dream, and a nightmare rolled into one. He was both sides of a coin toss, consequence and reward. I wanted to kiss him so badly right then that my lips ached. I wanted to run away from him, screaming, just as badly.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n It\u2019s a great set up, and when Fix demands that he join Sera on her trip to her sister\u2019s wedding, posing as her date no less, it just gets better. There are lots of laughs, continued banter and teasing, and so much sexual tension it practically drips off the page. But we also get to look into both of their pasts, and there is a lot of darkness there. They have been through hard times, and though different, they are both lifechanging and devastating. But their experiences have shaped who they have become, and everything begins to change for them as they start to learn more about each other.<\/p>\n I\u2019d done some stupid, messed up things as a teenager. I\u2019d done equally stupid, reckless things after \u2026 but nothing in my life had ever gotten me as high as Sera Lafferty. She was the light that flowed in my veins. She was the oxygen in my lungs. She was the fuel that fired my heart.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n See! There is some unexpected sweetness underneath that gruff and over-confident veneer. And the romance that develops is gorgeous! It\u2019s not a conventional love story, that\u2019s for sure, with a whole lot of baggage and a mix of emotions at play, but I still felt the growing feelings between Fix and Sera, and I loved the way it all played out.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m your addiction, just as much as you\u2019re mine. I\u2019m toxic for you. I know that. If I were a better man, I\u2019d let you go. But I\u2019m not.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Like I said, the story ends on a cliffhanger, but it\u2019s not too painful. It\u2019s something that I could see coming, but that still makes a huge impression, and will shift the story going forward, and I can\u2019t wait to see where it\u2019s all going to go from here!<\/p>\n He cupped my face in his hand, stroking the pad of his thumb over the line of my cheekbone. \u201cYou\u2019re fucking <\/i>mine,\u201d he groaned. \u201cYou don\u2019t need to worry anymore. Dirty and sexy with lots of laugh-out-loud moments, but with nicely developed emotion and dark undertones that give the whole story a deliciously wicked feeling.
