Just as young love begins to blossom, Callen is ripped from Jessica’s life without a goodbye. Jessica is left with the memory of her first kiss and the boy she can’t forget, and Callen is left with the music in his soul that that was planted by Jessica.

The prologue sucks you in and sets the scene for a beautiful love story. Once I started I could not put it down, and More Than Words proved to be the heartbreaking and emotional second-chance romance I had hoped for. The story is gripping and laced with feels and I couldn’t help but be invested in Jessica and Callen’s lives.

Jessica as a child was imaginative and believed in fairytales. She was pure and good and I loved her gentle soul. As an adult, Jessica is determined to follow her dreams. She doesn’t make it easy for Callen when he comes back into her life and I loved that when it mattered she didn’t back down. She stood up for herself and told him how she truly felt without sugar coating her feelings. She was strong, blunt, and deserved respect and honesty, and I loved her.

I wanted a man who would fight for me, who would slay dragons for me, and whose love I could count on to be as steady and unchanging as the stars.

Mia writes beautifully broken heroes that pull at your heartstrings and Callen is no exception. Lost, lonely, and insecure, he has a past full of pain and he drowns his feelings in alcohol and women. I was so sad for him and how far he fell. He had changed so much over the years since we saw him as a child and it was heartbreaking.

He’d kissed me on the patio, and he hadn’t tasted like warmth and hope, not like I’d remembered. He’d tasted like alcohol and sin. He wasn’t the boy I’d known – not even close – and it had broken my heart just a little bit.

I loved that Jessica and Callen were willing to fight for the beautiful friendship that was formed years before even if they weren’t after something more right away. Watching their new relationship bloom was gorgeous. It is not an easy road, though, and I ached with the pain they experience. Jessica was so understanding and I hated how much Callen pushes her away. I wished there wasn’t quite as much back and forth but I did believe in the healing and growth Callen went through by the end.

I have to say that I loved Jessica’s profession and I couldn’t wait to see what all she discovered as she translated the letters. They were amazing and completely captivated me. They added a story within a story and were full of emotion. I was desperate to find out how the tale of the past would play out, and it was honestly one of my favorite things about the book and I found myself wanting more.

Overall, More Than Words was captivating, entertaining, and addictive, and I couldn’t help but become invested in the beautiful second-chance love story.

*ARC generously provided by the author and Forever & Forever Yours, Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Check out our Mia Sheridan Author Spotlight for more amazing reads!

Buy: Amazon US | Paperback Review 4 “I’m here to save you” stars “Live fiercely and without regret.” Jessica and Callen meet as children and a beautiful friendship forms.
