We were a summer of finding ourselves. Of losing ourselves. Of finding each other. Of losing each other.

Get ready for all the feels! Disgrace takes you on a rollercoaster of emotional highs, lows, and everything in between, and I loved it!! Cherry weaves a captivating story full of startling twists, self-discovery, heartbreak and healing, and brings it to life through its beautiful delivery, well-paced storyline, original characters, and the strong emotions it evokes.

Grace is drowning in heartache and betrayal when she discovers her husband’s infidelity. Having been with the same person for half her life, she doesn’t know who she is without him. Lost and feeling so alone, she is done with trying to be perfect and just needs to find a way to breathe again.

Grace isn’t the only on suffering. Jackson’s life was flipped upside down when he a just ten years old, sending him down a path of destruction. He has a history of using drugs, woman, and getting into fights, and is known as the black sheep of the town. He is the complete opposite of Grace, but he might just be the person to help her take a breath.

We were the classic cliché. She was the good girl next door, and I was the monster from around the block. We were perfect opposites for the perfect storm, and she was asking me to be her next flaw.
To be her greatest mistake.

As Jackson helps Grace take her mind off of the hurt in her present, she becomes the distraction he needs from the pain in his past. But offering an escape for each other was never supposed to turn into something more, and when hearts get involved, things get complicated.

She was beautiful, that was a given, but she was also broken. Just like me. My broken pieces stayed shattered, and hers intermixed with them all.
We were just two broken people, uninterested in being fixed.

Full of devastating circumstances, heart pounding moments, breath taking experiences, and a love so great, you cant help but feel everything in Disgrace. You don’t just read it, you live it. It’s a story about the struggles you face while finding yourself after losing everything you’ve ever known. It’s about letting go of the past and discovering who you are as an individual so you can move on and finally heal.

Grace and Jackson are far from perfect and have flaws that make them authentic. Their insecurities and vulnerabilities make them relatable and believable, and it was impossible to not love these beautifully broken characters from the moment I met them. Grace and Jackson were so endearing that I couldn’t not be invested in their lives, and I loved them both individually and as a couple.

I absolutely adored Grace. Kind, genuine, and non-judgmental, she was such a good person that it was easy to see why she drew people in. Even Jackson couldn’t stay away. She was real to me, and the pain and heartbreak she felt was palpable. Strong and brave, I loved seeing her stand up for herself and watching her grow as she comes into her own.

Jackson is cold and mean when Grace enters his life but once he opens up he is a completely different person. The flash backs broke my heart over and over again from all the things that were thrown Jackson’s way both in childhood and adulthood. All he went through as a boy kept the tear tracks fresh on my cheeks. Then add in everything in the present and I couldn’t keep enough tissues on hand. Jackson had so much love in his heart even when he couldn’t see it and I found myself desperate to see him happy.

Jackson and Grace are one of my favorite couples. Their souls connected when they least expected it and their hearts left a lasting imprint each other. They were intense and though they were opposites in most ways, they were perfect for each other. They shared a love so powerful it was easily imagined, and I felt it down deep making my heart skip a beat and my breath hitch.

He wasn’t mine, and I wasn’t his, but that night, we were something. There wasn’t a name for it, but only feelings.
It felt scary yet safe.
It felt fast yet slow.
It felt wrong yet still so unbelievably right.

Ultimately though, to fully heal and let go of the past they must discover who they are as individuals. They must love themselves before they can love another and the character growth is well-developed. I couldn’t help but root for this amazing couple as they support and love each other unconditionally.

“If you ever fall in love again, please let it be with me.”

I have to give a shout out to all the secondary characters. Alex was a wonderful man who stuck by Jackson through the rough times and always put a smile on my face. Jodie was a breath of fresh air in Grace’s life and I loved that she was a true friend. And then there was Judy, Grace’s sister who filled my heart with love. They share an amazingly strong bond and are there for each other no matter what.

She loved me enough to let me explore unmarked territory, and she never let me walk it alone.

There isn’t a single thing that I would change in this story. I loved everything about it, heartache and tears included, and in the end I was filled with so much love. Disgrace holds a special place in my heart and it is easily a top 2018 favorite of mine.

*ARC generously provided by the author and Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review*

About the Author

Hi!
