Sweet, sexy and dramatic with a bit of mystery/suspense, this is a great read, and I couldn’t put it down.

Isabelle Farris lost everything in one night when a home invasion took the lives of her husband and young daughter. Lost and completely mired in devastation, she found solace in therapy horses and eventually took a job as the secretary to the ranch owner, immersing herself in her life there and slowly clawing her way out of her grief.

When she learns that her boss, Mr Talbot, has a grown son that she never knew about, she reaches out to him to let him know about his father’s illness, imploring him to come home so that he can make peace with his father before he dies.

Brant Talbot left the farm he grew up on following the death of his mother. For 13 years, he has been estranged from his father while he built up his own business, becoming a successful club owner in New York City, and never looking back. When he gets a phone call from a woman he doesn’t know informing him about his father, he makes the trip home to see the true state of things.

Upon his arrival, Brant is immediately suspicious of Isabelle’s motives and her position in the house, and subsequently he’s a real jerk to her. But after watching Isabelle at work, he begins to realise he couldn’t have been more wrong, and he finds himself drawn to the beautiful, quiet and clearly haunted young woman. And Isabelle, though in no way looking for love, finds herself equally as attracted to Brant. And as the two of them open up to each other, they forge a soul-deep connection that changes everything for both of them.

I loved Isabelle and Brant’s relationship. Not only is it passionate and emotional, but it’s so freaking functional! It’s not an easy road for them, but they are open and honest with each other, talking about what they want and what they feel they are able to give, and sincerely trying to make it work, and they prove to each other, and to themselves, that they are capable of a depth of emotion that neither of them realised.

But their lives could not be more different. They both have a lot of soul searching to do to figure out what they truly want, and the emotion of it all is really beautifully written.

Alongside the romance, Brant is learning about his father and the truth of his past, coming to some harsh realisations about himself and his life. And Isabelle still has questions about the night that her family were killed – there is more to that night than she ever realised, and as she begins to dig, a devastating betrayal is uncovered that threatens her future happiness.

All of the different elements of the story are woven together to create a sweet, sexy and heartfelt romance with a mysterious/dramatic edge. Brant and Isabelle’s journeys are beautifully explored, and though they have their ups and downs, it all ends well with epilogue that left a huge smile on my face.

I listened to this as an audiobook, which was an absolute delight! Jacob Morgan (Zachary Webber) and Virginia Rose do an amazing job bringing this story to life, and I definitely recommend listening to this one!

I loved it! 4.5 stars!

Check out our Mia Sheridan Author Spotlight for more awesome reads!

Buy: Audiobook Note – this is an audio release only. Ebook and Paperback to be released 8 January Review 4.5 stars!
