After hanging on that cliffhanger from the last book of the series, I was so keen to see how this book was going to play out, and I love that we dive right back into the story and into the head of the ‘King’ of the ménage relationship that has kept me so captivated, President Ash Colchester.

The most important part of wearing a crown and using a sword is knowing when to set them down.

Ash is such an intriguing character, and I loved getting to see his perspective – especially as we flash back to the past to see new scenes which further flesh out the story, and to scenes that we have seen before, but this time from a different POV. I love that we get to see the softer, emotional side to this big, strong, confident, dominant man, as he muses over his feelings for the two loves of his life – his wife, Greer, and his long-time on-off lover, Embry. And Ash lays it all out – his feelings, his vulnerabilities, his heartache and his pain, and I loved getting to see this different side to him.

I wouldn’t be complete without her, and neither would Embry. She was made to be my wife, and we were made to be a three.

The last book saw everything change for this trio – three complex, well-developed characters who found something so incredible together that it altered all of their lives. Now facing futures different from the ones they anticipated, there is a lot of hurt, betrayal, regret and anger between them, but the love and passion for each other is still burning as strongly as ever, and holy hell, this book is so steamy!

The relationship between the three of them is just as much sexual as it is emotional, and every time they are together, it’s as much a mind-fuck as much as it is a physical one. Their dynamic is heavily grounded in kink, and they each have a unique role to play in their relationship, but it’s such an important part of who they are. The sex scenes are dirty and explicit, and take up a fair portion of the book – I admit, I found myself zoning out occasionally as those scenes went on and on and on – but the emotion and intensity behind it is an important part of who these characters are and how they relate to each other, and I found the dynamic to be fascinating.

Right there on the soft grass, in the warm sunlight, our three hearts beat as one once again and we share every breath, every kiss, every single drop of our love.
Equal and alive.
Three.

There are twists and turns, big reveals and more than one surprise, and there was such a sense of anticipation as I read, trying to figure out where all of the individual story threads were going and how they would finish up. That ending definitely wasn’t one that I saw coming, and honestly I’m still a little unsure how I feel about it, but with their unique situation and all of those secrets it was never going to bring about a clean-cut, easy finish, and I like the sense of mystery and intrigue that was woven into the story as it all played out.

This was a really intriguing story – very different from your usual romance, and definitely not what I was expecting. But I loved the writing and appreciated the exploration of the dynamics, and the intensity of this unconventional love story.

3 stars.

The New Camelot
