Once upon a time Avery and Emmett were everything to each other. They thought they had a future only to have it ripped away when they least expected it. Now years later, they find themselves stuck on a vacation together and things quickly become tense and emotional. When the past comes rushing back, will they be able to move on together or are they destined to remain apart?<\/p>\n

Ruthless King<\/i> is the first book I have read by Maya Hughes and it won\u2019t be my last. Full of emotion, healing, and heart, this sweet, swoony, sexy romance will make you believe in second chances.<\/p>\n

I really liked Avery. She works so hard and puts her family before everything else in her life. She is always going, never taking a moment for herself. Her strength, determination, and perseverance makes her endearing and I love that she never backs down when faced with the past no matter how much it still haunts her.<\/p>\n

Those memories didn\u2019t end with a smile. They ended with a sharp ache so deep I wondered if it would ever heal.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Avery crushed Emmett and he has never recovered. Even hearing her name is too much for him to bear. I understood his pain and anger. I felt for him because of the heartbreaking way things ended. There was no healing and the emotion is still very real.<\/p>\n

I was an Avery junkie falling off the wagon after four years.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When Emmett and Avery are thrown together after the years apart they, are electric. The sexual tension is off the charts and they heat they produce can catch pages on fire. But there is so much to work through even if the physical stuff is better than ever. It\u2019s the emotion that is involved when hearts break and finding their way back to each other is far from easy. They are hurt and broken and the trust that was shattered long ago is still in pieces.<\/p>\n

The achy, trembling, raw feeling was clawing its way out of my chest. We were a powder keg drenched in lighter fluid on top of a bonfire.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I knew there was more to the story because Avery was such a wonderful person. I was eager to learn the truth and when I did, GAH, I don\u2019t know what I would have done in that situation. It was frustrating and angering but also understandable in some ways. It was a difficult situation that could have been handled better but I loved reading the flashbacks as the whole story unfolded.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t need any of it. I didn\u2019t want any of it. All I needed was you.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Overall, Emmett and Avery\u2019s story was an enjoyable second-chance romance and pulled me into the Kings of Rittenhouse<\/i><\/a> series. I will definitely go back and read the first two books because I can\u2019t wait to see how the other Kings find love!<\/p>\n
