It is a gorgeous romance that is funny, sexy, sweet, and slightly angsty about a couple who are opposite in most ways…and you know what they say, “opposites attract.”

Kayla is beautiful, sassy, sarcastic, and hilarious. She has a filthy mouth and even filthier mind. She is small, loud, and tends to speak before thinking. She is tired of only finding the wrong men, and is no longer looking for the right one.

I swear, I’m not afraid of love. There’s just no one out there for me and I’ve made peace with that. If you can’t find a man to share your heart with, well… share your vagina with him instead.

Lachlan is hot, huge, and has his fair share of ink. He is private, intense, and doesn’t open up to anyone. From the first moment Kayla lays eyes on Lachlan she is intrigued with this quiet beast of a man.

He’s probably the most stunning man I’ve ever laid eyes on, and I immediately want to rub myself all over his face.

Lachlan is only in town for three weeks and is in no way looking for a relationship. Kayla has sworn off men and even if she is totally attracted to him, she’s not really looking to hook up…at first. What starts as a simple interview leads to a quick friendship with intense feelings building between the two of them.

The sexual tension fills the room when they are together, and when they finally give into their desires, it is HOT! As quiet as Lachlan normally is, he definitely isn’t quiet in the bedroom. And to say they have a lot of sex is an understatement – they can not get enough of each other.

“You want more?” he asks gruffly, holding onto my ass. “Tell me what you want. To come on my tongue? Or to come on my cock? Both?”
“God, don’t make this complicated,” I whine, breathless and insatiable.
“All of the above, then.”
…
“Don’t stop,” I hiss as he plunges back inside, deeper this time, coaxing another unrestrained noise out of my throat. “Don’t you ever stop fucking me.”
“Jesus,” he swears, gravelly and low. “I’ll bury myself in you, if you let me.”

Lachlan and Kayla spend as much time as they can together before he has to return to Scotland. Joining their friends on a trip to wine country, they learn more about each other, and at one point, Kayla starts to see a darkness in Lachlan that is hiding just below the surface. He is obviously fighting demons of his past, she just doesn’t understand what it is that haunts him. Because she cares deeply for him, she gives him time to be comfortable enough to tell her on his own.

I wanted him, every part of him. The dark bits that were hidden away and only hinted at by tattoos. I desired all of him, like a dying man desires one more breath.

As Lachlan’s time in the US comes to an end, he is not ready to give Kayla up. Though she has reservations about leaving her mother and job for three weeks, Kayla takes Lachlan up on his invitation to come home with him. Her time in Edinburgh is lovely but slowly she notices Lachan’s demons making an appearance. Finally his past catches up to him and it’s all too much to handle. Things blow up in Scotland just as things take a turn for the worse at home in the US for Kayla. Their new relationship takes a hit and we know it will be a challenge to get back to where they once were.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved Kayla and Lachlan’s relationship. They complimented each other so well. They made me laugh, cry, and fall in love right along with them. I loved them together and all the moments that made me swoon!

“Kayla… you’re my girl. You’re my beautiful world. And I’m whatever you want me to be, just as long as you know that I have never, ever, felt this way about someone in my entire life.” He lowers his face, eyes focused intently on my lips. “I’m losing myself in you. Every day. And it’s the most wonderful, terrifying feeling in the world. If I’m being honest here, you’re starting to drive me a bit mad in my affections for you. I don’t know if I will ever be of right mind again.”

I loved Kayla. I think she was such a strong heroine. And though she needed time to get her head on straight, I totally understood her decisions and feelings. She loved Lachlan unconditionally and wanted to be with him, but she just couldn’t make it happen right away. My heart hurt for Kayla and what she and her family had to go through.

I loved Lachlan. He was such a sweet, swoon worthy hero. It was so emotional when we find it about his childhood. My heart broke for him and I totally understand how his childhood shaped his life. I loved that he fought his way out of the darkness even though he had a long road ahead of him. I also loved the passion that he had for his dogs. Ruff Love Animal Shelter. Rescuing dogs was so important to him and I loved that Kayla was on board from the start.

I enjoyed seeing the gang from the previous books. I loved the strong friendships everyone shared and the support they gave Lachlan and Kayla when they needed them most.

As one of my favorite reads of 2015, I definitely recommend it. I also highly recommend the other two books that came before this one!!

A solid 5 star read!!

Recommended reading order

<img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="2274" data-permalink="https://www.escapistbookblog.com/?attachment_id=2274" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.escapistbookblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/The-Pact-80.jpg?fit=80%2C122&ssl=1" data-orig-size="80,122" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1418236678","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="The Pact –
