It has the perfect mix of everything – laughter to lighten the mood, emotion to pull at you heartstrings, and depth to draw you in. It deals with real life issues that made the characters and story believable, and I was invested from the start.

Flint is a top attorney who is great at winning cases. He lives for his son but even he can’t take away the guilt, pain, and regret that suffocates him on a daily basis. He had everything he could have asked for but in a blink of an eye, tragedy broke his world apart and he has never been able to put the pieces back together. His story is utterly heartbreaking. I was mad and frustrated with Flint’s actions but at the same time I still felt so much for him.

Ellen is strong, stubborn (in a good way), and hardworking. She changes people lives and loves what she does. Bright and energetic, she is a breath of fresh air in Flint’s life. Her happy demeanor and positivity rub him the wrong way though and I loved watching her get under his skin. She is witty and sharp, and so much more to her than what Flint sees. Lurking behind the happy facade is a deep pain; however, she doesn’t let it get her down and I loved her strength.

Ellen and Flint are perfect for each other. The banter is fantastic and Ellen can give as good as she gets. I loved her boldness and humor, and when it comes to Flint, she says whatever she wants and I couldn’t help but crack up.

“We didn’t have sex.” He keeps his focus on the contents of the file folder in front of him, thumbing through the pages.
“We did. I finished out the scenario in my head when I got home last night. I was amazing. You were just okay. I have to say … you’re the first guy I’ve been with who cried during your orgasm. What you lacked in manliness, you made up for with complete tenderness. I will always remember the soft caress of your tears falling onto my cheeks.”
Flint eases his squinted gaze up so slowly it’s torturous. I nibble at the inside of my cheek to keep from grinning. Dang! He looks so sexy with ruffled feathers.

The sexual tension is well written and their chemistry is undeniable even as Flint fights the attraction he doesn’t want to feel. Though the lust is instant, the buildup to a relationship is very well done. Trying to navigate their wants and desires with what they think they deserve or need is difficult but eventually they can’t fight the pull, and I loved the heat between them.

Flint and I are two pinballs bouncing into each other and shooting off in opposite directions until we’re destined to collide again. Each crash feels more explosive.

Still, there are roadblocks in the way and time is not on their side and it broke my heart. Just as they open their hearts to the possibility to love again everything is taken away. I understood their decisions but I didn’t make it any easier.

Maybe everything has to break before it can truly be fixed.

In the end, all the pain and heartache are worth it because Ellen and Flint are just so wonderful together, and they have found a special place in my heart.

“I hate how we got here…but I’m glad we made it.”

Overall, Look the Part is an emotionally charged love story that will pull at your heartstrings. I was completely invested in Ellen and Flint’s lives and want to go back and experience everything all over again!!

I’m going to love you so hard, time won’t matter. Distance won’t matter. All you’ll feel when you take each breath … is my love.

I have to give a shout out to the fabulous secondary characters. Flint’s son, Harrison, is a sweet, brilliant boy who melted my heart. Amanda, Flint’s assistant, is so funny, and honestly I’m not sure what Flint would do without her. Both play a vital role in Ellen and Flint’s live both individually and as a couple, and they added some great moments to the story.

*Note: I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic. The narrators bring the book to life and I felt every emotion as if they were experiencing it first hand. I usually love reading books but I couldn’t stop listening to this one!!

Check out our Jewel E.
