OMG! Mind\u2026 blown! I can\u2019t believe she did it, but this was even better than Divergent<\/a>!!!<\/b> I really can\u2019t say much without giving away massive spoilers for the series, so I’m keeping this vague.<\/p>\n

The second book in the Divergent trilogy picks up straight away, almost at the same scene that finishes Divergent. Tris, Tobias and their companions have left the city after the tragic and traumatic events at the end of the last book, and Tris is dealing with major guilt over everything that happened. This, along with the realisation of what her Divergent status means for her and her friends, forms a major part of her struggle as her guilt and grief eat away at her, and come between the relationships with those that she holds dearest, especially Tobias.<\/p>\n

This all plays out while the factions continue to crumble, new alliances are forged, battles are fought and revolution is imminent.<\/p>\n

\u201cInsurgent,\u201d he says. \u201cNoun. A person who acts in opposition to the established authority, who is not necessarily regarded as a belligerent.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This book was a wild ride from start to finish, with so many \u2018OMG\u2019 moments, my heart was pounding and I was frantically flipping pages the whole way through. With all of the plot twists, and the search for the mysterious \u2018secret\u2019, the conspiracy theorist in me was trying desperately to figure out what the hell was actually going on, who is on what side, who is trustworthy, and who is a traitor. And each little part of the book plays into something so much bigger. It\u2019s all brilliantly woven together.<\/p>\n

The cast of characters is absolutely fantastic! Love them or hate them (and I did!\u2026 and then didn\u2019t), they are all so real, and each with an important part to play. The action is intense and brutal, and I love that Roth doesn\u2019t hold back on the shock factor – I think I screamed ‘OMG, nooooooo’ a number of times while reading. But there is also some great humour, and the love story between Tris and Tobias brings some gorgeous moments \u2013 even though they too have their struggles.<\/p>\n

Tris is a great heroine. She is strong, brave and determined, and I love that she has a great mix of each of the faction characteristics, and the way that each of them play an important part in her journey. My heart broke for her over and over with all that she had to endure. But she stayed strong, tried to be positive, and was determined to do what she thought was right.<\/p>\n

And a huge shout out to Tobias. What a freaking legend he is! Also determined to do the right thing, he had his own struggles to go through. And even though things weren\u2019t always peachy between him and Tris in this book, his love for her never wavered, and his faith in her was strong. I absolutely adore him!<\/p>\n

\u201cI can’t force you. I can’t make you want to survive this.” He pulls me against him and runs his hand over my hair, tucking it behind my ear. His fingers trail down my neck and over my shoulder, and he says, “But you will do it. It doesn’t matter if you believe you can or not. You will, because that’s who you are.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I am totally gobsmacked at the awesomeness of this book, and the whole series. I can\u2019t wait for the next one.<\/p>\n
