Oh, my heart! What an emotional ride this book took me on – a raw and intense second-chance romance that is angsty and emotional, funny, sweet and swoony. It\u2019s a very welcome return to a series that I love, and I loved Quinn and Ashton\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

This book is part of the Salvation<\/i> series, and the first book in the Indefinite Duet<\/i>. The duet can be read as a standalone, but be aware that you will be missing some context, as well as introductions to other couples in the series. This is the story of Ashton and Quinn. Ashton is the best friend of Catherine (from the Belonging Duet<\/i><\/a>) and Gretchen (from Evermore<\/i><\/a>), and Quinn is the best friend of Liam (from the Consolation<\/em>\u00a0Duet<\/i><\/a>). The friends are all very close and their lives are intermingled, and all of the characters from the series appear in this one, so beware spoilers for the previous books.<\/p>\n

Ashton and Quinn have been in a complex relationship for three years. Volatile and passionate, they are very much in love but they\u2019ve been caught in a cycle of on and off, with Quinn refusing to fully commit due to his being a Navy SEAL and the risks that puts on both him and anybody who he leaves behind. The book opens in the middle of a heartbreaking confrontation which throws us right into the turmoil of their relationship, and I was captivated as it all fell apart right in front of my eyes.<\/p>\n

My heart is beating hard against my chest walls as her body starts to tremble. This is what we do. We fight, we make each other crazy, we push each other away, and then we crash back together.
\nLike a never-ending war that we keep fighting because we can\u2019t stop. <\/i><\/p>\n

She sniffs as her shoulders fall. \u201cIt could be so simple for us.\u201d<\/em>
\nI bury my face in her dark red hair and brush my nose against the back of her neck. \u201cI can\u2019t do it. I can\u2019t give up this life.\u201d In her heart, I think she knows this. \u201cNot even for you.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It gets you in the feels right away, and I was devastated for them as they end thing once and for all, Quinn goes off on deployment and Ashton tries her hardest to move on. But months later, and everything has changed for Quinn, and he is back in town and determined to get his girl back at any cost.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not yours anymore.\u201d
\nThat\u2019s where she\u2019s wrong. She <\/i>is mine. She will always be mine. \u201cI\u2019m not walking away this time, Ash. No matter how hard you push.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is a beautiful story of a man trying to win back the woman he loves. It\u2019s full of grovelling, rip-your-heart-out rawness, heartfelt declarations, and so much freaking swooooooon!<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t expect this to be easy.\u201d
\n\u201cNo, it definitely won\u2019t be.\u201d
\n\u201cI know that I have a lot of grovelling to do.\u201d
\n\u201cYeah.\u201d I nod. \u201cI\u2019d say that.\u201d
\n\u201cBut I\u2019m willing to do it. I\u2019ll fight through whatever line of men is trying to take my place. I\u2019ll slay any dragon if it means I get you in the end. I know talk is cheap and that I\u2019ve made promises I couldn\u2019t keep before, but I want to give you whatever you want.\u201d
\nHis fingers wipe away a tear I didn\u2019t feel fall. \u201cI\u2019ve only ever wanted you.\u201d
\n\u201cYou have me.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Quinn used to be such a player, so seeing him now as a man in love is absolutely gorgeous! I love how open he is, and how committed he is to winning Ashton back. It\u2019s not an easy battle for him \u2013 in more ways than one \u2013 but the raw emotion is beautifully written, and I found myself rereading certain passages over and over again just to soak it all up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in love with you. So deeply in love with you that I don\u2019t think there will ever be a way out.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The chemistry between these two is electric! Though they fight it at times, their pull to each other is palpable, and you can feel how much they want and love each other. It\u2019s so intense, but there\u2019s a wonderful sense of playfulness about them as they are both so sarcastic, and I loved how their snark and bickering played such a big part of their relationship.<\/p>\n

He moans against my mouth, and my hands press against his hard chest. I want him so much I want to not want him even more, but I can\u2019t stop it. He breaks the kiss, but his lips move to my neck.
\n\u201cI hate you,\u201d I tell him.
\n\u201cNo, you don\u2019t\u201d
\n\u201cShut up.\u201d
\nHis warm breath is right against my ear. \u201cYou shut up.\u201d
\n\u201cMake me.\u201d
\nHe slowly drags his lips back to mine, effectively doing exactly what I told him to do \u2013 shut me up.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For so much of this book the angst levels are high and there was possibly a bit too much back and forth for me. Ashton, in particular, gave a lot of mixed messages and held Quinn at arm\u2019s length for too long. I could understand her fear of getting hurt, but I found her stubbornness really frustrating.<\/p>\n

There are no winners here. There are just two people who can\u2019t seem to find their places. It\u2019s sad and awful. The pain of losing him was bad enough the first go around, yet here I am, enduring some form of it again.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There\u2019s not a lot of story beyond the romance, but towards the end there\u2019s an added element as Quinn is enfolded into the Cole Security family, and that creates a bit of excitement. And through the whole book there\u2019s lots of interaction with the other characters of the series, which is lots of fun!<\/p>\n

The books ends on a massive cliffhanger, and I\u2019m so excited to see what happens next for these two as they fight for their HEA in Infinite.<\/p>\n

I loved it. 4 stars.<\/p>\n
