The action has shifted from North Carolina to Texas, with a new bunch of Immortal Guardians and their seconds to get to know – but rest assured that characters from the earlier books in the series still make an appearance, tying everything together nicely. It still has that same feel that I have come to expect from the series, so of course I loved it, but it’s also a great starting point if you haven’t made a start yet. It can be read as a standalone, with lots of explanation given, and will surely whet your appetite to all that this series has to offer!

Nick is a 400 year old Immortal Guardian who has a crush on his neighbour, single mother, Kayla. He’s never actually pursued her, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to control his supernatural responses to her, but his feelings for her have only increased over the years. Kayla is feeling things for her hot neighbour as well. But as a 38 year old divorcee with a college-aged daughter, she believes him to be way younger than her, plus she thinks he’s involved with somebody, so she’s never really thought anything between them was a possibility.

But everything changes when Kayla is involved in an accident, and Nick risks everything to save her. His secret is out, and everything changes between them as they finally reveal their feelings for each other, and then it’s all on.

“He buried his face in her neck. His arms tightened around her almost to the point of pain.
Frowning, she hugged him back. “Nick?”
“You scared the hell out of me today,” he murmured, his deep voice hoarse.
Her heart turned over. “I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Just let me hold you a minute.”

After years of build-up it’s a fast-moving romance, and Nick and Kayla are hot and heavy really quickly. It’s sexy and emotional, and they’re feeling everything really deeply as they spend every moment together, desperate to learn and explore all that they can about each other. I love a PNR that’s heavy on the romance, so I was right on board, and it’s really freaking steamy!

The action comes when an unknown threat surfaces. Nick is clearly their target, but he has no idea who is after him or why, and when Kayla is swept up in all the danger, he brings in his Immortal Guardian brethren to help him track down and eliminate the bad guy. It’s suspenseful and exciting, and brings a nice intensity.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s heavier on the romance than other books in the series, but it’s balanced well with the paranormal and action plotlines. I loved catching up with earlier characters (Seth, Roland, Marcus and Aidan all make significant contributions), and enjoyed meeting the new additions to the cast. I’m excited to see where the series goes from here.

3.5 stars!

Check out our Immortal Guardians / Gifted Ones series page for more info

If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, check out our Paranormal Recommendations page!

Buy: Amazon | Paperback | Audio Review 3.5 stars I love Duvall’s Immortal Guardians world, and was so happy to dive back in with this book, which is strongly romantic with a bit of action, […]

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

454,10,9,29
391,390,48
post-53442","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-audio-recommendation","category-paranormal","category-romance","category-steamy","tag-dianne-duvall","tag-immortal-guardians","tag-review
https://i0.wp.com/www.escapistbookblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Broken-Dawn.jpg?fit=200%2C300&ssl=1
["GET
