Fun and romantic with fantastic characters and great action, Rebecca Zanetti continues to expand and enhance her paranormal world, and I cannot get enough!<\/p>\n

This is the second book in the Dark Protectors\/Rebels<\/i> spin-off, which can be read independently of the original series, but will be infinitely more enjoyable to fans. The characters in this book were introduced in the first of the spin-offs, Vengeance<\/a><\/em>, where we met a unique bunch of immortals attending (of all things) anger management classes. It\u2019s hilariously unexpected, and they\u2019re a great group, and I loved being back with them all.<\/p>\n

Tabi is a feisty and independent demoness who is fighting bad guys and working to build her fortune when she runs into trouble with the police and ends up in anger management classes. And the man who put her there is local Detective, Evan O\u2019Connell, who seems determined to protect her \u2013 despite her insistence that she doesn\u2019t need it.<\/p>\n

Evan is a local detective with a big heart, the best of intentions, and a protective streak a mile wild. He was a SEAL until a debilitating illness presented him with a death sentence, so he moved to a small town where he could make a difference with whatever time he has left. He\u2019s determined to clean up the corruption in his small town, and he\u2019s investigating a local murder (from book #1), but the case he can\u2019t get off his mind is Tabi\u2019s, and when he learns that she\u2019s in danger, he can\u2019t help but throw himself right into the middle of it.<\/p>\n

It’s a fun set-up, which gets even more entertaining when Tabi decides that she can help Evan by mating him \u2013 therefore curing him of his illness and saving his life. Of course, it means they\u2019ll be bonded for eternity, but she\u2019s not thinking that far into the future. Until the deed is done, and the result is nothing like she was expecting.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know him better than we do. If his human personality is amplified, is he dangerous?\u201d
\n\u201cNo. Bossy, controlling, and protective, however,\u201d she murmured. And she\u2019d mated the guy.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is such a great read. Tabi and Evan are great characters, and I loved the twist in the usual run of things as a male mate is bought into the immortal fold for the very first time. It\u2019s intriguing, and adds up a whole new world of possibilities, and I loved watching it all unfold.<\/p>\n

The unusual event brings cameos from the Dark Protectors series \u2013 both the original story arc, and the new \u2013 which I loved, and there is a nice set up there for the next book in this spin-off, Vampire<\/em>, which will be Raine and Mariana\u2019s story\u2026 can\u2019t wait!<\/p>\n

As always, there\u2019s a nice amount of action as Tabi\u2019s threat catches up to her, but this time, she\u2019s got a protector by her side. And there\u2019s a sexy and intense romance full of banter and bickering as Tabi introduces Evan into her world and they wok to figure everything out between them.<\/p>\n

So much fun, and a must-read for lovers of the series.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you need an alibi taking that twerp out, just let me know,\u201d Tabi whispered to Raine as she strode out of the abandoned schoolhouse after the useless anger management class. Johnny Baker was a waste of space, as far as she was concerned.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThanks,\u201d Raine said, not smiling, the darkness surrounding him. The early spring breeze rustled through the night, chilly and unwelcoming. At least it wasn\u2019t raining.<\/span><\/p>\n

She nodded and moved down the crumbling cement sidewalk toward her car as Raine turned and jogged across the street to his silver truck. Stopping at her car, she paused, not surprised to see the detective heading her way through the night. \u201cYou really have a hard-on for me, don\u2019t you?\u201d she murmured.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes.\u201d Both of his eyebrows rose. \u201cYou sure have a way with words.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She unlocked her vehicle, her body flaring to life at his honest response. \u201cI was raised by a woman who called it like she saw it.\u201d Sometimes the pain at losing Janet still took Tabi by surprise. Why did humans have to die? \u201cUnless you\u2019re going to give up my video, I suggest you head to work like your boss ordered you to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Evan opened her door, his sexy scent of smoked honey wafting around. \u201cI\u2019ll give you the recording.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She jolted and turned to face him directly. \u201cWhat did you say?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

His blue eyes seemed darker than usual, deep with what looked like pain. \u201cI\u2019ll give you the recording. Come down to the station tomorrow morning for one more interview, and then I\u2019ll take you to the bank myself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It was as if he knew she was going to blow town the second she got her hands on the video, even though her business was here. She bit her lip. If she got the footage, she could meet Abby at the factory and give her instructions before running. Man, she hated to run.<\/span><\/p>\n

Evan smiled. \u201cYou\u2019re sure thinking hard. Why don\u2019t you tell me what\u2019s really going on? I can protect you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Warmth flushed her. The man truly believed that. The only way he could come close would be if she\u2014no. No way. She shouldn\u2019t even think of that. Was it even possible? Did she want a mate?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
