A gorgeously emotional book full of chemistry, steam, swoon, and delicious angst in an epic rockstar romance that had me absolutely captivated!

Sarina Bowen and Devney Perry did a fantastic job setting up Hush Note’s lead guitarist, Nixon Winters, as this broody, troubled soul with a big heart underneath all of his bravado, and Rebecca Yarros has brought it home, nailing this complex character and providing him with exactly the story that I was hoping for. Having said that, though, you can read this one as a standalone – just beware spoilers for the earlier books.

Nixon may be riding the success of his chart-topping rock band, and revelling in the women, booze, and partying lifestyle that comes with being a rockstar, but deep down, he has problems. A stint in rehab has him on the path to healing, and to make sure that he stays there, Zoe Shannon is assigned to ‘babysit’ him. As the assistant to Hush Note’s Manager, it’s not the job that Zoe wants for herself, but she’s determined to put in the effort if it means a promotion at the end of it. But neither of them have any clue what is coming their way.

This wasn’t just chemistry – this was nuclear, something capable of powering the world or destroying it.

The atmosphere of this book is sizzling from the start, and Yarros manages to get us to the heart of these characters really quickly, so even though they bickered and bantered, I was crazy about them and anxious for them to find their way together from the very beginning. I could feel their attraction that started off as physical and became something so much more as they began to open up and get to know each other. They develop a true friendship, with just the right amount of flirting to keep my heart pounding and have me desperate for more.

I knew this side of Nixon wouldn’t stay at the surface for long, that it was only visible because he was fresh out of rehab. Because he was sober. Because there weren’t paparazzi and models and half-naked groupies in his dressing room. I knew it was temporary, but instead of scaring me, it only made me feel like this glimpse of what he could be was private…precious.
And God help me, I wanted it to be permanent.
I wanted him to be real.

And as their walls start to come down, everything begins to change.

Perfect, gorgeous, rule-abiding Zoe wasn’t just coloring outside her lines, she was obliterating them. For me.

It’s a great set-up, and similar to other books I’ve read before, but it’s written so well! The balance of fun, flirtatious, angsty, passionate and swoony is just right, and I was feeling everything right along with Nixon and Zoe. There is this fantastic sense of anticipation that was more than satisfied when they find their way to each other, but that is only the beginning of the journey that these two go on. Nixon is experiencing true love for the very first time, and the emotion of that is beautifully explored, but his past is devastating, slowly revealed throughout the story, and as it takes its toll on him, there is so much that they need to deal with. It’s angsty and dramatic, and my heart ached for all that they go through, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s realistic and it makes sense for the story, and it works to build the emotion and I could not put this book down as it all played out!

Nixon’s bandmates and best friends, Jonah and Quinn, are along for the ride, and I loved seeing them again, and I absolutely adored Zoe’s family and their part of the story. It all adds to the depth of everything that is happening between Nixon and Zoe, and it comes together beautifully.

“So, you won’t be running,” Quinn said softly as she came to my side.
“It’s too late for that,” I whispered.
Her eyes flared, and her shoulders tensed as she glanced again between Nixon and me, as if that charged, crackling space between us was a tangible thing. “God help us all.”

So. Many. Feels! And it’s all worth it, because everything that we go through with these characters is wrapped up beautifully in a blissfully satisfying ending, and an epilogue that provides continuation and closure for all of the characters of the series.

I love the concept for this series, and Bowen, Perry and Yarros have given us three very different but beautifully tied together stories, and each of them stole my heart. It’s finished off with an emotional bang, and I absolutely loved it!

5 stars!

An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Hush Note

<img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="51507" data-permalink="https://www.escapistbookblog.com/?attachment_id=51507" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.escapistbookblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Lies-Lullabies.jpg?fit=200%2C300&ssl=1" data-orig-size="200,300" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Lies &
