A gorgeous romance full of chemistry that is sweet, sexy and so, so functional. With strong family themes and minimal drama, it’s easy and enjoyable, and I loved it.

Sadie is a magazine writer, and part of her job is to respond to the ‘Christmas wishes’ column. It’s the middle of the year, but when Sadie receives a letter from a little girl named Birdie, she can’t help but respond – Birdie’s story is so similar to her own childhood, and Sadie goes out of her way to fulfil a few of her wishes. When Birdie keeps writing, Sadie becomes more intrigued, and she is pulled deeper and deeper into her life, until she comes face to face with her gorgeous, widowed father, Sebastian, and she plants herself into both of their lives by pretending to be the dog trainer.

It’s a cute set-up, and so, so funny as Sadie enters Birdie and Sebastian’s world. The giant beast of a dog is a character all his own and brings lots of entertainment to the story, and Sadie’s relationship with little Birdie is just gorgeous. But it’s the sizzling chemistry with Sebastian that had my heart pounding. The sexual tension simmers from the very beginning, and when the truth comes out, the dynamic shifts, and the story really hits its stride.

When someone comes along and makes you feel butterflies, you need to chase them.

They spend time together, they talk openly and honestly, they admit their attraction to each other, and even though Sebastian isn’t looking for a relationship, he can’t deny the pull he has to Sadie and pretty quickly, things begin to change.

“I don’t know if it’s fate or a series of crazy coincidences that brought us together. But whatever led me to you isn’t as important as what will keep you here.”

The relationship is easy and natural, fun, sweet and super passionate. It’s gorgeous to watch Sadie and Sebastian fall for each other. And little Birdie is a big part of their story as they come together as a family.

“There was something just so beautiful about a man who saved the best parts of himself for the women in his life.”

The twist that these authors bring to their books wasn’t a huge surprise and didn’t cause too much drama. In fact, it pretty much fizzled into nothing. I honestly didn’t think it was necessary, but it was an interesting development.

This is a sweet and enjoyable read that is an easy and angst-free read with a great romance. The romance is super cute, little Birdie pretty much steals any scene that she’s in, and I loved the strong family themes. The book ends in a good place, with an epilogue that finished off the story nicely and it left me with a smile on my face and feeling all fluffy.

I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Andie Arndt and Sebastian York, and they do an amazing job as always. Definitely worth a listen.

4 stars.

See our Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward Author Spotlight for more great co-writes from this duo

Buy: Amazon US | Amazon UK | Amazon CA | Amazon AU | Paperback | Audiobook Review 4 stars!
