The second book in the Anna Albertini<\/i> series, and we\u2019re back with Anna as she embarks on her next exciting journey in a read that is fun, fast-paced, action-packed, suspenseful, exciting and gleefully romantic. It\u2019s just the wild ride I was hoping for, and I loved it!<\/p>\n

Prosecuting Attorney at the DA\u2019s office in her small home town, Anna is settling into her new job and the routine of life, when her world is once again thrown into turmoil when her sister, Tessa, and her maybe-boyfriend, Aiden, are caught standing over the dead body of her sister\u2019s violent ex-boyfriend. It doesn\u2019t look good, and when Anna takes it upon herself to investigate and prove their innocence (in direct opposition to her sexy, flirtatious boss), she has no idea what she\u2019s in for.<\/p>\n

This book is so much fun. The murder mystery forms the basis for the Anna\u2019s wild adventure, and as she interrogates witnesses, follows leads and explores mysterious noises in the night, she finds herself in a world of trouble. It\u2019s fast-paced and so entertaining, with the situation constantly changing, and the mystery\/suspense keeping me guessing right until the very end.<\/p>\n

In the middle of it all, Anna is trying to figure out exactly what is going on with her and maybe-bad-guy\/maybe-good-guy, Aiden, and I loved that we got a little bit more romance in this one. Anna and Aiden\u2019s situation is complicated, and there are ups and downs for them to navigate, but there\u2019s no doubting their mad chemistry, and I loved every single moment of them together.<\/p>\n

He leaned over to grasp my hand. \u201cI don\u2019t want to hurt you, Anna.\u201d
\n\u201cThen don\u2019t.\u201d I loved how much bigger his hand was than mine. \u201cTell me the truth. Are you an undercover FBI agent?\u201d
\n\u201cNo.\u201d He snorted. \u201cGod, no. Why would you ask that?\u201d
\n\u201cBecause I don\u2019t want you to be the bad guy,\u201d I whispered. \u201cYou\u2019re too good to be the bad guy.\u201d I straightened. \u201cIn fact, you told me that you weren\u2019t the bad guy. Remember?\u201d
\n\u201cYeah,\u201d he said softly. \u201cWhen I\u2019m with you, I don\u2019t feel like the bad guy.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And let\u2019s not forget Anna\u2019s loud and mad family. Intrusive and opinionated, this is a hilarious bunch, and they are all up in the situation \u2013 and Anna\u2019s life \u2013 as she puts herself in danger over and over again while trying to get to the bottom of the whole thing.<\/p>\n

From bikie gangs to arms dealers, mysterious tattoos, a tenacious attorney, a surprising new partner and more than one bad guy, Anna\u2019s determination to clear Tessa and Aiden takes her on a wild journey, and I was glued to my kindle from start to finish as I watched it all unfold. There are some pretty huge twists in this book which bring changes for Anna and lead to some new directions for the series, and I\u2019m so excited to see where her journey will take her next.<\/p>\n

If he was looking to trip me up, he\u2019d failed. \u201cAiden and Tess aren\u2019t dating. I have no idea where he has been for the last two weeks.\u201d It wouldn\u2019t do to lie to Pierce right now, and I didn\u2019t see a reason not to tell him the truth. \u201cBefore you ask, I don\u2019t know why Aiden was at Tess\u2019s apartment or if he had any prior relationship with Danny Pucci.\u201d But I was sure going to find out.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you don\u2019t know why Devlin\u2019s knuckles were as beat to shit as the dead body\u2019s?\u201d Pierce asked.<\/p>\n

Yeah, I\u2019d noticed that as well. \u201cNope.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierce twirled a pen on his desk. \u201cThis isn\u2019t looking good for your sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

Considering I hadn\u2019t talked to her yet, I didn\u2019t know how bad it looked. \u201cDid you test her hand for GSR?\u201d I asked the question like I knew what I was talking about and hadn\u2019t binge-watched Law & Order all day Sunday, where is actually how I\u2019d learned about gunshot residue. A homicide case was way above my pay grade.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe tested positive,\u201d Pierce said, seeming relaxed but definitely not missing anything.<\/p>\n

I rolled my eyes. \u201cIf she picked up the gun that had been used to kill Danny, then the residue would be on her hand. You know that.\u201d I thought that was the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also know that only a moron would pick up a gun in that situation,\u201d Pierce retorted. \u201cUnless she was frightened by Devlin. But I\u2019d have to ask what he was doing
\nthere.\u201d<\/p>\n

I swallowed. \u201cDid you test Aiden\u2019s hand?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYep. Positive as well,\u201d Pierce said, watching me like a bird of prey. \u201cAccording to him, he was target practicing yesterday, but that\u2019s all he\u2019d own up to\u2014so far. I\u2019m off to interview him next.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat about Tessa?\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierce shook his head. \u201cShe lawyered up right away with Clark Bunne. Wouldn\u2019t say a word.\u201d<\/p>\n

Relief cooled the hot ball of anxiety in my stomach. Okay. Good. \u201cWell, then. I guess I\u2019ll go talk to her and figure this out. Let\u2019s hope you\u2019re as good of a detective as
\nyou think you are.\u201d With that zinger, I stood.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlbertini? You\u2019ll have to talk to her tomorrow,\u201d Pierce drawled.<\/p>\n

I stopped cold, still facing him. \u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n
