What the feisty redhead lacks in stature, she makes up in attitude. She’s made more than one grown man cry and she’s damn proud of it. Little does the rowdy barista know she’s about to meet her match in the shape of a walking, talking pair of starched khakis.

When unassuming Eddie Jaworski stumbles into a quirky coffee shop, he isn’t expecting a battle of wits with the maniac behind the counter. Still, he can’t help be intrigued by the endearingly irreverent human enigma. She’s brash, but considerate. Closed off to most, but fiercely loyal to a few. Everything is a joke, except those things that are sacred. Jackie doesn’t trust easily and if he wants to get close, he’s going to have to work for every inch. Good thing he’s up for the challenge.

But Eddie has a secret—one he didn’t mean to keep—that’s going to tug at the delicate strings weaving the pair together. A super entertaining opposites-attract romance with a lot of heart that made me laugh out loud, and I really enjoyed it!

Jackie is the hilariously irreverent best friend of Elizabeth from the amazing first book in this series [book:So, That Got Weird|52752814]. It’s a fun tie-in, but this book can absolutely stand alone.

Jackie is a unique character. She’s angry and snarky, and though she has dreams of something more, she’s stuck in a rut working in her grandfather’s coffee shop, reading her favourite sci-fi books and online gaming at night, and she is too scared to take a leap to get out of it. She covers all of that up with insults and attitude, and she is so freaking funny!

He’s still trying to get on my good side. I promise I have one. It’s just reserved for a very select group of truly amazing people. The rest of the world can fuck right off.

On the surface, Eddie is everything that Jackie is not. He’s quiet and seems straight-laced, but when he walks into Jackie’ store and cops her attitude, he flings it right back at her. And when he keeps coming back to hang out and work at her shop, we get some fantastically fun back-and-forth, setting up a deliciously flirtatious dynamic that I could not get enough of.

“You dress like Old Navy threw up,” she purrs.
“And you, Jackie Ryan, dress like a colorblind five-year-old.”

“You’re vanilla pudding, and I’m devil’s food cake. You’re a glass of rosé, and I’m whiskey neat. You’re the Gap, and I’m a vintage thrift shop. You’re missionary, and I’m kink. You’re easy listening, and I’m punk rock.”
“That it? That all?” He winks. This fucker actually winks at me.
…
I quip over my shoulder, “Darlin’, I’d destroy you.”
“And I’d enjoy every second of it,” he adds without missing a beat.

Their banter is quick, and their attraction grows with each and every encounter, and quite unexpectedly, they find that all of that passion transfers quite easily to the bedroom. Their hook-ups are seriously hot, and the more they get to know each other and open up to each other, they slowly, naturally and easily fall into a relationship that neither of them ever saw coming.

I’ve never been so fascinated with another human being. I want to crawl inside her mind and know every inch of her. Her pain. Her pleasure. Her dreams. Her fears. The good, bad and indifferent. I want it all.

Eddie is all in, but Jackie has huge walls around her heart. She’s a complex character, but even she can’t resist the chemistry between them, and I loved watching them fall for each other.

Eddie Jaworski came into my life as a passing amusement. Then I used him as a much-needed distraction. Now he has dug his way into my heart and set up camp. I don’t know how to chase him out. What’s worse, I don’t know if I even want to.

But Eddie has a secret. It’s one that the reader is aware of from the very beginning, but the longer their relationship goes on, the harder it is for Eddie to share it with Jackie. When all is revealed, it brings heartbreak and conflict, forcing them both to face some hard truths, and some long-overdue soul searching.

I really enjoyed this book. The banter and chemistry are fantastic, I loved Jackie and Eddie as characters, and the constant snark and teasing between them is so entertaining. Their romance develops beautifully, and I loved seeing them fall for each other. I thought the conflict was a bit excessive – not the actual conflict, but Jackie’s reaction to it. It’s extreme, and goes on for way longer than I wanted, and I got so annoyed with her. For me, it really brought down the mood of the book, which was disappointing, but it all works out, and paves the way for an epically swoony ending that left me very satisfied.

Definitely a fun read, but I would have preferred less drama. 3.5 stars.

An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest
