Please leave your message at the sound of the beep\u2026<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Penelope, I know that it\u2019s three o\u2019clock in the morning, but I have to get this off my chest.<\/p>\n I can’t give you any more advice on landing this other guy, can’t tell you another “sexy” thing that you should do, or suggest a new set of filthy words that you should text him late at night.<\/p>\n As your best friend, I’ve reached my limit, and I can honestly say that he doesn’t deserve you.<\/p>\n I’m not saying all of this because I’m f-cking jealous, or because he had the audacity to say that he makes more money than me. (I still can’t find his name on the Forbes 500 list, and I know damn well that he’s renting that Ferrari, but that’s a story for a different day.)<\/p>\n He’s not who you think he is, and the better man has always been right in front of you…<\/p>\n You have every reason to never give me a chance since you know me better than anyone, and you agree with all the tabloids calling me “The Cocky King of New York,” and the “Untamed Playboy of Manhattan.” But I honestly believe that you’re better off with someone else, and I need you to see.<\/p>\n I’m not asking for too much…I just want you to break up with him,\u00a0for me<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n Add to Goodreads<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 4 stars<\/b><\/p>\n The is a fun, clever, and banter-and-chemistry-filled friends-to-lovers romance that quickly hooked me in, and kept me captivated from start to finish.<\/p>\n Hayden and Penelope are best friends, but it wasn\u2019t always that way. Hayden was the best friend of Penelope\u2019s older brother, Travis, and when Travis left town to follow his career, he put his 23 year old best friend in charge of looking after his 17 year old sister. Hayden was less than impressed, but he soon became Penelope\u2019s lifeline, driving her around, supporting her sporting aspirations, rescuing her when she needed it, and providing dating advice. And over the years, a friendship formed until we get to the present where Penelope is 25, and Hayden is a billionaire app developer, and they are both living in New York City and are the centre of each other\u2019s worlds (in a strictly platonic sense).<\/p>\n I love this friendship! They tease and bicker, they share everything<\/i>, and they put each other above everything \u2013 which is hilarious when Hayden\u2019s colleagues try to keep him focussed on other things. They are smart and witty, the banter, emails and text conversations are gold, and they get each other on such a deep level. Nothing is off limits, and I laughed over and over at their conversations, and entertaining dynamic.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope that after today\u2019s \u2018Meet the Family\u2019 episode, that you\u2019ll be honest with Mack and tell him about the lackluster sex \u2026 Reaching the six-month mark means you should be able to be honest.\u201d It becomes evident pretty quickly that there is more than just friendship between these two. They may not acknowledge it, but attraction sizzles, and when Penelope finally looks to be getting serious with the \u2018right guy\u2019, Hayden realises what is right in front of him, and he\u2019s not prepared to let her get away.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n And suddenly, everything is different.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI want you to break up with him, <\/i>for me.\u201d <\/i><\/p>\n \u201cI fucking want you, Penelope,\u201d he said. \u201cYou belong with<\/em> me.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Hayden very much reminds me of one of my fave Whitney G. heroes, Andrew Hamilton from Reasonable Doubt<\/a>. He is a brash, confident, cocky playboy who does whatever he wants and gives zero fucks, and it\u2019s so entertaining! Especially when you mix that with Penelope\u2019s feistiness, as she continues her quest for love. And when he sets his fierce magnetism on her, she is powerless to resist.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t be <\/i>just your friend anymore, Penelope.\u201d He looked into my eyes. \u201cI refuse.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The story jumps between past and present, giving us glimpses into Hayden and Penelope\u2019s past, which is revealed slowly throughout the book. It is a great way for the story to unfold, as there is so much more to this friendship than we see on the surface. We get hints at the depth of their connection and the importance of their relationship, and as the story twists and turns, things are revealed just at the right moment for maximum impact, and I thought it was really cleverly written.<\/p>\n The romance is gorgeous, and steamy as all hell. Hayden is sexy, and seriously filthy, and though he\u2019s never been in a relationship before, he throws himself all in and gives great boyfriend. He\u2019s funny, sweet, and swoony, and I loved seeing him as the romantic hero.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to be yours, and I want you to be mine.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n But it\u2019s not all smooth sailing. Hayden and Penelope have some hard times to get through, and though there were some moments that made my heart ache, of course it ends well (though I would have loved another epilogue just to provide some more closure and give us a glimpse of their HEA).<\/p>\n I loved this book. It kept me entertained all the way through, and I finished it with a grin on my face, marvelling at the way it all unfolded.<\/p>\n Loved it \u2013 4 stars!<\/p>\n P.S.
