How many chances does a girl get to kiss her crush? Not many, if any. This is a prime kiss opportunity. A kissortunity. Also, he smells good. And he\u2019s right here. If I just leaned forward we\u2019d be kissing and I wouldn\u2019t have to spend the rest of my life wondering what it would be like to kiss him. And he\u2019s clearly not going to take the lead.<\/p>\n

So I do it. I lean in, my fingers gripping the edge of his desk so I don\u2019t topple into his lap, much as I might enjoy that, my head tilted just a fraction to the right, and press my lips against his. He doesn\u2019t move, save for the small intake of breath the moment before my lips touched his, the moment it was clear I was about to do what I\u2019m doing. He\u2019s perfectly still. And his lips are perfect.<\/p>\n

And.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuh,\u201d I say, leaning back, a bit disappointed to be honest.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was that?\u201d He\u2019s staring at me, a bit of confusion clouding his expression.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a kiss. But it wasn\u2019t how I imagined it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou imagined kissing me?\u201d Warren looks like he\u2019s a few steps behind on this entire exchange. He also looks mildly offended by my review of said kiss. \u201cYou surprised me,\u201d he adds, his tongue sweeping his lower lip.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a surprising girl, it\u2019s true,\u201d I agree, but I\u2019m looking anywhere but at him. Good Lord, did I really just kiss him? I did. And it wasn\u2019t even worth it. It was kinda weird. Obviously awkward. And now I have to walk-of-shame out of the governor\u2019s office. To the guest bedroom. Though it was just a kiss, so my exit will be closer to a slither of mortification than a full walk. So, at least there\u2019s that.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re too young.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor kissing?\u201d My eyes fly back to his. \u201cI\u2019m twenty-seven,\u201d I clarify. Then I make it weird by adding, \u201cGov.\u201d Why am I like this? Seriously, why? And why did I push my luck and kiss him?<\/p>\n

Stupid, stupid kissortunity. I\u2019m gonna take my cat and go home.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re entirely inappropriate for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMmm-hmm,\u201d I murmur in agreement, already starting the slide off his desk, trying to recall where I last saw Gary.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hardly compatible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d I agree because \u2018inappropriate\u2019 and \u2018incompatible\u2019 are words I\u2019m very familiar with. He should be adding It\u2019s not me, it\u2019s you, any second now. I\u2019m on my feet now, eyeing the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cWait.\u201d He stands, effectively trapping me between him and the desk a moment before I can escape. \u201cYou surprised me,\u201d he repeats.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you said,\u201d I quip.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaught me off guard,\u201d he adds, as if the meaning of \u2018surprised\u2019 is unclear. Our eyes catch and a flicker of uncertainty or apprehension crosses his face before he mutters, \u201cFuck it,\u201d and then he\u2019s cupping my jaw with his hand and lowering his lips to mine.<\/p>\n

\nThis kiss is exactly how I imagined it.<\/p>\n
