This is the story of Kyle – the hilarious, manwhoring best friend of Connor (hero from On a Tuesday), and his story is fun, unexpected and sexy with a nice amount of heart.

Like his best friend, Kyle is an NFL superstar, but his personal life is pretty much non-existent, and his relationship with the media and his ‘fans’ is tumultuous at best. His life takes an interesting turn when a random social media comment sparks memories of the girl he fell for in his senior year of college. He and Courtney remained close after graduating, but had a massive falling out a little over a year ago and they haven’t spoken since, leaving a gaping hole in his life. Kyle decides to jump on the opportunity and fly across the country to see her, but ends up gatecrashing what actually turns out to be her engagement party. Awkward! But not all is as it seems, and the chemistry in their brief encounter sets the scene before we travel back in time to where it all began.

As a college student, Kyle is a wildly entertaining hero, with a well deserved reputation as a cocky playboy who never takes anything seriously. But a run-in with devoted student, Courtney, has him all hot and bothered, unable to think of anything except the one girl who seems immune to his charms.

Courtney had a bad experience with Kyle during their freshman year, and she has tried her best to ignore the cocky, manwhoring playboy ever since. But she’s in her senior year of a journalism major when she is tasked with writing about the sports star for her thesis project, and she is horrified.

Kyle is thrilled to have an excuse to spend time with the girl he has been secretly crushing on, so they set up weekly meetings ‘On a Wednesday’, those soon spilling over into the rest of the week as Kyle pretty much inserts himself into Courtney’s life, and the two of them become friends. It’s a fun friendship, full of teasing, and Kyle working hard to drag Courtney out of her shell. And underneath it all is a raging attraction that Courtney does her best to ignore, trying to keep things strictly in the friend zone… until Kyle douses that idea completely.

“Friends can handle their friends going out on dates with other people.”
“Then we need to call this little arrangement something else.” He suddenly presses his lips against mine, ending my argument with ease.

Kyle and Courtney are a lot of fun together, with great chemistry. They never really define what they are, they just go along with it, and it’s all very playful and sexy. They both know that their time together is coming to an end – Kyle is headed straight into the NFL after graduation, and Courtney is heading to London to further her studies – but that doesn’t stop feelings from developing, and when they part, they promise to remain friends and come back together when Courtney returns to the US in four years.

During the story of their college years, the story jumps back and forward in time, and it continues to skip forward during their time apart. We get to see glimpses of them struggling with the distance and the changes to their relationship, and we get to see their vicious falling out, leaving them both so angry, and Courtney devastated. And then we’re back to the present, watching a lovesick and determined Kyle fight to win back the only girl he’s ever loved.

“I want you back, and I don’t know any other way to make that clear. And I don’t know why I’ve waited all this time to tell you how I feel.”

It’s a fun read, mostly because of Kyle’s wicked sense of humor and his ‘no fucks given’ attitude when it came to getting Courtney back. Seriously, the man has no shame, and there is nothing he won’t do, which makes him a really entertaining romantic hero. And though Courtney is initially wary, she is understandably powerless to resist the force that is Kyle.

“I’ve never loved anyone else the way I love you,” he said. “Never.”

I love a second-chance-romance, and I was hoping this book would hit me in the feels just as much as its predecessor did, but after all of the build-up, I thought that the part of the story that takes place after their college years all felt a bit rushed. It seemed more like a highlight reel, as we got to see the big moments, without any of the lead-up or resulting fall out. It was more just glimpses into their lives. And while I appreciated that it helped keep the storyline moving, it all happened very quickly, and I would have liked to see a bit more of that time in their story so that the emotion really had time to develop.

But the book ends well, satisfying on all fronts as Kyle and Courtney sort their lives out and find their way back to each other.

3.5 stars.

An Advanced Reader Copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

One Week

On a Tuesday (#1) (Grayson & Charlotte)
Review
Buy: Amazon | Audiobook

On a Wednesday (#2) (Kyle & Courtney)
Review
Buy: Amazon

About the Author

Whitney G. is a New York Times & USA Today bestselling author.
