Jay McLean has finished off her Pieces duet with an angsty, heartwrenching, devastatingly emotional read that had me hooked start to finish. I ached for these characters, but it was worth every moment of pain to get such an incredible love story.

We left Holden and Jameson in quite shocking circumstances at the end of Pieces of You. Now, it’s five years later, and so much has changed.

There are only so many times a person can break before the damage becomes too much.
Too irreparable.
Too permanent.

They are about to come face to face for the first time, and all of the intensity that I was hoping for is there from the very beginning. It’s emotional and dramatic, and my heart was pounding, but, of course, it’s not a happy reunion. Jay McLean brings the angst as Holden and Jameson battle through all of the anger, confusion, guilt and grief that is between them. We don’t know what tore them apart just yet, but we get hints, and as much as it hurt to see them in so much pain, you can also see the depth of their feelings for each other underneath it all. It’s real, it’s gutwrenching, and I felt it all right along with them.

“I can’t do this again. I can’t fall for you again.” … “I need to protect my heart so that you can’t destroy it again.”

It’s a difficult journey, but spending time together again allows them the chance to finally confront all that is between them, and when they finally start to make their way back to each other, holy freaking hell, what a swoonfest!

“I’ve missed you.”
“Yeah?” he asks, eyebrows raised.
I nod.
“Good,” he states. “Because I was barely breathing with you, Jamie.”

OMG, the pain that these two have gone through is absolutely heartbreaking, and there is a lot that they have to work through – both individually and as a couple. They were broken when they met, and their separation has left them in pieces, and as the full picture of all that happened between them, and in their time apart, is revealed, the whole story comes together, and the feels just don’t stop coming! But as they unravel it all, you get this amazing sense of completion, that their actions and reactions all makes sense, it’s all understandable, they get each other, and they’re finally ready to move forward together.

“Nothing has changed … I loved you then, I love you now, and I’ve loved you every single day in between.”

Holden and Jameson are amazing characters. I felt for them, I could empathise with both of them, and I adored them both so much. Though he’s hurting, Holden’s wicked sense of humour comes through again and again, and his sweet, caring and protective nature is absolutely beautiful as he fights to win back his girl. And Jameson is just… wow. Her strength in overcoming all that she has been through is just incredible, and the way she puts herself out there for Holden despite everything, is gorgeous. And after all of her longing for family, love, and a home, seeing her find that is so special. These two have an amazing dynamic, and the mix of humour, intensity, understanding and unconditional love is perfect.

“I don’t need you to be my hero.”
Moving towards me with his hands shoved in his pockets he cracks a smile, saying, “You’re your own goddamn hero, baby. I’m just here for the ride.”

With the strong themes of family and friendship, we get to spend a lot of time with the extended cast of characters, and that was such a treat. I have to say, Big H and his girlfriend, Maggie, really steal the show in this one, but I loved seeing characters old and new (Mia and Lucas included), as they rally around the young couple.

This love story, and its happy ending, is hard fought-for, but worth every moment. I felt so much while reading this book, and adored seeing these two soulmates find their way back to each other.

She’s the hero in our story—our Love Story—and I’m forever grateful that she came home to me.

5 stars!

An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Pieces Duet

Pieces of You (#1)
Review
Buy: Amazon | Paperback

Pieces of Me (#2)
Review
Buy: Amazon | Paperback

About the Author

Writer.
