Oh my God, what the hell did I just read? My heart is racing, my head is spinning, and I\u2019m caught up in SO many feels. Nina Lane has taken me on a swoony, passionate, angsty and intense rollercoaster that is full of surprises, and it\u2019s such a phenomenal read!<\/p>\n

This is the second book in The Birdsong Trilogy<\/i>, an angsty, emotional and intense forbidden love story between a young woman and her father\u2019s best friend. The story is perfectly set up in the first book of the trilogy, Sparrow & Hawke<\/a>, and all of those feelings and intensity are immediately recaptured as we meet up with them four years after they said their goodbyes at the end of the first book.<\/p>\n

Nell is now a college graduate, living in NYC and looking for work. She\u2019s not having any luck, but she\u2019s determined to stand on her own two feet and find her way. Meanwhile, Darius has spent four years travelling the world, hurling himself into warzones and other dangerous situations in an attempt to outrun his demons, and his feelings for Nell. When they unexpectedly run into each other again, it doesn\u2019t go well, but holy damn, the feels!<\/p>\n

Nell continues to blow me away with her strength and bravery in letting Darius know what she wants. And when he brutally rejects her yet again, she pulls herself up and gets on with her life \u2013 this time travelling to embrace new opportunities. But when she finds herself in danger, Darius runs to her side to help, and the two of them end up stuck together in the last place on earth Darius wants to be, and on the edge of disaster.<\/p>\n

I won\u2019t say anything more than that, because you just need to jump in and experience this book and all of its wonderful twists and turns. I thought it was a fantastic direction for the story to go, and loved every moment of Nell\u2019s new adventure, and Darius\u2019 return to her life in such extreme circumstances.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though years can pass without us talking to each other, I\u2019m always aware of you in the world. I always know you\u2019re here. And I will always drop everything and run to you if I think you need help, even if you don\u2019t want me to. Maybe that\u2019s overstepping or whatever you want to call it, but it\u2019s the truth. And with the two of them pretty much locked away from their real lives, away from external judgement and in completely new and intense circumstances, all of their feelings are impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n

Finally, we get to see the love story that the first book hinted at. I anticipated epic, and Nina Lane delivered, with an emotional, swoony, passionate romance that absolutely owned my heart. Nell and Darius are absolutely beautiful together, and I revelled in every moment of them finally exploring their feelings for each other.<\/p>\n

This
\nThis is what I\u2019ve been missing, what I\u2019ve been searching for, what I feared I would never find. But of course, he\u2019s the one who had it all along.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

They still have some issues to work through \u2013 mostly with Darius coming to terms with his feelings for Nell, how all-consuming they are, and what it means for both of their futures, but regardless of all of that, I loved watching him fall so damn hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen wrongness. I\u2019ve done and felt more <\/i>wrong things than I can count. But what I feel for you has never been one of them \u2026 It\u2019s the most genuine, pure thing I\u2019ve ever known.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Nell is there for him every step of the way \u2013 supporting Darius, guiding and encouraging him, and she holds nothing back from him as she fights so hard for the man she loves.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been loving you from a distance for the past four years. I love you still.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But the danger that keeps Darius on edge is very real, and soon they are forced to face it head on. In scenes that had me holding my breath, the final chapters had me madly flipping pages, unable to stop reading and desperate to know what was going to happen. I cried, I ached, and felt so<\/i> much, and I was completely swept up in the intensity of the story. There\u2019s a cliffhanger, and it\u2019s brutal, but thank God, Lane has moved up the release date of the third and final book in the trilogy so we don\u2019t have too long to wait to see how it\u2019s all going to end.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe path doesn\u2019t always stay the same. It veers off in different directions or gets blocked\u2026or sometimes it just disappears altogether. So you have to find it again or make a new one.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I absolutely adored this book. The characters, the setting, the romance, and the secondary storyline are fantastic, and are all woven together brilliantly to create a completely engaging read that I feel like I lived with Nell and Darius. Reading this book was an experience<\/i>, and I cannot wait for more of Nell and Darius\u2019 story.<\/p>\n

About the Author<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Though she was born and raised in California, Nina Lane now lives in Wisconsin where the winters are freezing and the cheese is exceptional. Mom to two teenagers and a neurotic dog, she lives in two worlds\u2014one world of laundry, driving, horses, Girl Scouts, and football, and the other of epic romances between hot alpha heroes and the women who bring them to their knees.
