I have been completely captivated by the story of Nell and Darius \u2013 forbidden lovers who fell for each other despite all that was standing between them, and in the most extreme of circumstances. We\u2019ve seen every moment of their angsty, dramatic, swoony and emotional romance, and now, Nina Lane twists their story again, bringing us a romantic suspense that is full of intensity, and which brings the trilogy to a dramatic but beautiful finish.<\/p>\n Pretty much anything I say will be horrifically spoilery for the trilogy, so this will be a vague review.<\/p>\n The ending of the last book (Feather & Flame<\/a>), left us brutally hanging, and this book picks up very shortly after that. All of my feels were still very much caught up, and I was once again frantically flipping pages as we follow Nell and Darius on the next stage of their journey, one which reveals a devastating betrayal and has them facing danger again \u2013 this time closer to home.<\/p>\n It\u2019s exciting and intriguing, and the story moves at a steady pace, keeping me fully engaged through all of the action and excitement. And it\u2019s balanced well with the blistering romance, which is passionate and all consuming, and full of swoon.<\/p>\n \u201cOur feelings for each other are rare and beautiful and worth cherishing. I would fight into eternity to protect what we have.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n These two characters have through so much, and they\u2019ve grown together. Their relationship has taught them a lot, and though they\u2019re still wrestling with real danger, and their own inner demons, they cherish each other beautifully, and I love how open they are with each other.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it weren\u2019t for the bad \u2026 I\u2019d never have known how good it can be.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The suspense storyline is really well written, and while I saw some of it coming, there are a lot of surprises, twists and turns. Again, my heart was pounding, and I was frantically guessing how it was going to play out. There is action and excitement, and some breath-stealing moments, and it\u2019s a bit of a wild ride as it all unfolds.<\/p>\n And the love story! Swooooooon! It\u2019s not perfect, but it\u2019s true to the characters, and I loved that so much. It felt real and raw and functional, and the honesty between them continues to be a remarkable part of their relationship.<\/p>\n I chose this. I wanted him. I knew he was complex and challenging and that he would never fit into any kind of conventional life. That right there is just one of the reasons I fell so hard in love with him. And why I\u2019ll always stay exactly where I fell. There\u2019s no rising and flying away from Darius Hawke.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The book ends beautifully, with an epilogue that provides wonderful closure, and I was left happy, satisfied, and absolutely swooning.<\/p>\n We no longer need defenses, fortresses, or locks. All we need is this wide-open space we\u2019ve found, this intense, unrestrained love, this life together in which we can both take flight. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n I loved this book so much.
