This is the book that Night Huntress<\/i> fans have been waiting for \u2013 the retelling of the first book of the series, Halfway to the Grave<\/a>, from Bones\u2019 POV. This is one of my favourite paranormal series, and Cat and Bones are one of my all-time favourite romance couples, so I was so excited to dive into this book to see exactly where Bones was at when their story first began.<\/p>\n

She was a brash, brave, foul-mouthed, murdering drunk<\/i>, and God help him, he hadn\u2019t found anyone this enticing in centuries. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We see them meet, we see Bones take half vampire-half human, Cat, under his wing and train her to be the badass vampire killer that we know and love, and we get to see him fall in instant, all-consuming love.<\/p>\n

Somehow, despite avoiding this feeling for nearly two hundred and fifty years, he was no head-over-heels for a prissy murdering half-breed who hated the sight of him and <\/i>snored. If this wasn\u2019t repayment for his many sins, he didn\u2019t know what was.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s fun, witty and flirtatious, and I loved watching this different perspective on a story that I love so much. We get to see more of Bones as he reflects on his history, and his surprising feelings for his young prot\u00e9g\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Every bit of him felt like it was waking up. He\u2019d think it was more lust, except it didn\u2019t stop there. No, it grew until it penetrated parts of him he hadn\u2019t realized existed.
\nHe\u2019d heard poets talk about things like this. They gave it fanciful names like \u201clove at first sight,\u201d or \u201cdestiny.\u201d He\u2019d always dismissed such claims as nonsense. Now, he wasn\u2019t so certain. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And alongside all of the snark, banter and laughs, there\u2019s an emotional element as Bones helps Cat come to terms with who she is, and accept the part of herself that she hates so much.<\/p>\n

He\u2019d tell her none of it \u2026 The rest would have to wait until she looked at him and saw a man instead of a monster\u2026and looked at herself and saw a woman instead of a sin to atone for. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And, of course, it\u2019s romantic, with a fun, feisty, sexy and heartfelt love story, and the beginning of one of PNR\u2019s most powerhouse couples, and I loved experiencing it all over again.<\/p>\n
