This is the second book in the Fae Isles<\/i> series, a beautifully written, emotional, romantic and exciting read that instantly sucked me back into this fantastically developed fantasy world.<\/p>\n

If you didn\u2019t read the prequel novel, Heart of Silk and Shadows<\/a>, I suggest you go and read it now. Not only is it a great read, but it will give you some background to things that happen in this book that had my heart racing! Do yourself a favour \u2013 don\u2019t miss out on that one!<\/p>\n

This book picks up right where book 1, Court of Blood and Bindings<\/a>, left off, and does give some backstory, but only bits and pieces that are revealed throughout the first few chapters. So if you are shady on details, you may find a quick skim of those final chapters helpful. I\u2019ve been obsessed with the story ever since I read it, so I was good to go, and never felt lost.<\/p>\n

We find Emelin and Creon in the mysterious Underground, having been taken in by a mixed group of beings who form the Alliance, the resistance against the ruling Fae Mother. They are Emelin\u2019s new allies, but they are not, however, fans of Creon, the Mother\u2019s dark assassin who they have battled with in the past. It makes for a really awkward situation, and as Creon is tormented by his surroundings, he slowly starts to lose grip on his epic self-control.<\/p>\n

Relief only comes away from the Underground, but leaving the safety of the stronghold brings them directly into danger, and they soon find themselves facing old friends and enemies. Emelin uncovers secrets about her past, and her training will be put to the test as battle looms, and both she and Creon will need to fight like they never have before to survive.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s another exciting read, and I am loving this fantasy world that Lisette Marshall has created! This is a really long book and it\u2019s a bit slow moving to begin with, but it builds the story well as we get to know the members of the Alliance and all of their twisted dynamics. I feel like I was right there with Emelin as she learns more about Creon, about her surroundings, its people and history, and figures out her place in it all. And I loved losing myself in this world all over again.<\/p>\n

And in the midst of it all we have a beautiful, passionate and emotional love story. Emelin and Creon have challenges to face, but there\u2019s no doubting their love for each other or their commitment to each other, and I loved seeing them together again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t help feeling we might just be quite perfect together. So don\u2019t ever worry \u2026 there\u2019s no comparison. You\u2019re incomparable. And tell me if you ever doubt that, because it will be my pleasure to remind you a hundred times more.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Their situation, and everything between them, is so intense, yet they have this wonderful sense of playfulness, and their teasing and bickering is so entertaining. Especially when young, inexperienced Emelin snaps back at the most powerful magic-wielder in the world without even a second of fear. And those little smirks and half-grins that she gets in return are everything<\/i>! Their love for each other just shines off the page, they are so freaking sexy together, but there\u2019s a deeper connection that is beautiful to see, and I love how they just get<\/i> each other.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s so much to love about both Emelin and Creon. They are fierce, brave and powerful but both have vulnerabilities. And despite this being a high fantasy book, they are relatable, and I loved the opportunity to get to learn more about them. And with what I can guess is coming, I can\u2019t wait to see how their story unfolds.<\/p>\n

The book ends in a great place, but there is still more story to be told, and I am so excited for more from this series.<\/p>\n
