4 sweet, sexy stars

Once again I found myself drawn to Kristen Proby and her fun, easy, sweet and sexy style of romance. This author writes pure comfort love stories, and I love that I can pick up any of her books and know that I’m going to get a great read that is low on angst, high on romance, and that will leave me with a big grin on my face. And now it’s Charly’s turn.

Charly Boudreaux has been talked into attending a women’s motivation seminar in Montana by her well-meaning sister. It’s not really her thing, but she soon finds that the time away from her real life and the hugely successful shoe store that she runs is just what she needs – especially when she gets to stare at the seminar facilitator, Simon Danbury, all day.

Simon is smooth, confident, charming and absolutely gorgeous. He feels an attraction to Charly just as she does to him, and when they start to spend time together outside of their sessions, their attraction only grows. As a client, he knows that ethically he can’t touch her, but when the seminar is over, it’s all on!

The fact that I haven’t been with a man in forever is of no consequence. I want this man. Right now.

With Simon soon to return to his native London and Charly at home in New Orleans, neither of them have any expectations from their time together other than just enjoying each other, but once they get back to real life, moving on is harder than either of them anticipated. So Simon travels to Louisiana to spend some more time with the woman he can’t stop thinking about, setting up all sorts of sweet, hot and fun moments as they spend time together and really get to know each other – all under the watchful, protective and intrusive eyes of the rest of the Boudreaux clan.

This man doesn’t just make my knees weak. He makes me forget that I even have knees.

Charly and Simon’s romance felt like an absolute fairytale. It’s natural and easy, and Simon is just so amazing! His charm and thoughtfulness is totally swoonworthy (think candles, a home-cooked meal and a bath with rose petals…. *dreamy sigh*), and he respects and values Charly, which I love. But he’s also a dirty talker and a demon in the sack, and wow, the love scenes are hot!

“You’re going to bloody kill me,” he says and rolls me onto my back so he can kiss me deeply. “But fucking hell, what a way to go.”

But Simon has been hurt before, and he still carries the scars of betrayal. And Charly has spent her life waiting for ‘just’ the right man – the one that she will recognise immediately as ‘the one’. Charly and Simon both need to learn to trust each other, and the depth of their feelings for each other if they are ever going to make a future for themselves – especially with so much standing between them.

I really enjoyed this book. As I expected from this author, it’s sweet, sexy and romantic with no angst and very little drama (which is dealt with functionally and sensibly with epic grovelling), and I laughed and swooned and was totally caught up in the romantic bliss of it all.

“You’re the closest to heaven I’ll ever be, Charlotte.”

I love that we got to see so much of Charly’s family, and love the opportunity to see them so happy and loved up and fully intruding all over each other’s lives – their interrogations of both Charly and Simon were so funny! With only two siblings left to have their stories told, there’s a great intro to Beau and Mallory’s book up next, but it’s Savannah’s that I want, with even more tantalising hints dropped in this book, and I can’t wait for more.

A gorgeous read, I loved it. 4 stars.
