Review

4 sweet stars!

Hannah is in California attending her half-sister’s wedding. She is seventeen and easily the youngest guest there. She came alone and doesn’t know many people but then in walks Liam. He is sweet and starts showing her attention she’s not accustomed to and Hannah soon realizes that maybe the wedding won’t be as lonely as she thought it would be now that she has someone to hang out with.

“Want to be my wedding date, Hannah Giacomina?”
He had a feeling that the grin she gave him wasn’t one she was accustomed to, because it spread over her face softly and slowly, like it wasn’t used to taking up so much real estate—like maybe it wasn’t usually allowed to.
She shrugged, but her eyes sparkled as she answered softly, “Sure. Why not?”

A Date for Hannah is written by Callie Henry, the pen name used by Katy Regnery for her new YA stories. Sweet, innocent, fresh, and emotional, this book is well written and age appropriate and I think young adults will relate to the story. It touches on several themes surrounding teenagers and the way they view themselves and the world. I thought the feelings were well written and relatable. Everyone has experienced insecurities as a teen and know how difficult they are to overcome.

Hannah is self-conscious about her size. She is vulnerable and I understood her fears and the way she compared herself to her seemingly perfect older sister. I felt the hope that Hannah had when someone notices her and then the crushing feeling she experiences when things don’t go the way she expected.

Liam was so sweet with Hannah and though he seems like he has everything put together on the outside, he’s far from perfect on the inside. He is constantly reminded of choices he made that he is not proud of. He has his own set of insecurities as he works hard to overcome the past, refusing to let it define him.

The characters go through a journey of self-discovery, and watching them work to overcome their insecurities and learning to let love in was beautiful. Hannah doesn’t judge Liam which is just what he needed and I loved when Hannah learns to trust and believe in Liam when he shows her how he feels.

She was scared—hell, terrified—of love. She had a right to her fears…But hopeless? No. She wasn’t. She just wished she was.

Hannah and Liam click in an instant. I enjoyed the sweet exchanges and entertaining banter. I felt the nerves, butterflies, and heart pounding moments that come with new feelings. Their relationship is tame with a few light kisses but it was not lacking passion and I felt the strength of their emotions grow.

If he hadn’t kissed her under the willow tree or just danced with her like they were falling in love, then watching her face in that moment would have been the best part of his entire evening. Because it told him something that rocked his world and gave him hope: she wasn’t ready to walk away from him either.

A Date for Hannah was a fun little read that fits the YA genre well and is a great start to the Love is for Everyone series. I can’t wait for more.
