My name is Oliver Arsen, but my mates call me Ollie.

I live hard and love harder, and it’s love that usually gets me in the most trouble.

According to the greater population, I’m the ultimate jerk.

My affection tends to be short-lived—a quality I’ve been assured multiple times by the fairer sex isn’t becoming—and the leaving part of loving and leaving has always come natural.

At least, it used to.

Until her.

Luciana Wright.

She’s an American bombshell and my sister’s best friend—a woman so wrong for me, it’s written in the waves.

And she’s the reason we’re all here.
The reason I have to go back to explain how it all went wrong.

To the day the jerk started falling.

Review

4.25 stars!

I had you in my grasp, Lucky, but now it’s fallen apart.
And in order to explain how it happened—
to explain myself—I feel like I have to go back to the day it all began.
To the day the jerk started falling.

The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks, book one in The Jerk Duet, ends with broken hearts and a letter to Ollie. By the time I turned the last page, I was desperate for Lucky and Ollie’s HEA and couldn’t wait to see how everything would play out. The Day the Jerk Started Falling begins with Ollie’s own podcast trying to explain his side of the story and how things went so wrong between him and Lucky. It’s thorough, heartfelt, and I loved that Ollie didn’t rush it.

Telling the truth…telling our truth…takes time.

This book is real, honest, emotional, and entertaining. It is so much more than just a retelling of their history through Ollie’s POV. We get to experience the story in a different light. From the way things went down to the way feelings grew, it was new, enlightening, and so freaking sweet. I loved hearing the details that we didn’t see or catch the first time around.

Ollie is awesome. I enjoyed getting into his head as he spoke to Lucky. I never guessed the things that were going through his head when I heard their story the first time. I loved the vivid detail of how Ollie sees Lucky and how Lucky was the only one to see the real Ollie, making her stand out to him. He notices not only the things on the outside but, most importantly, the ones on the inside that make Lucky so special. He loved her humor, personality, intellect, and her sassiness. He loved her for her, flaws and all.

Ollie is sex on a stick but it’s his sweet, swoony, romantic side that filled my heart. He was real and raw in his podcast and we finally get the whys and hows behind what he said and did. I loved watching Ollie fall as his attraction shifts from merely physical to fully emotional. I wholeheartedly believed what he was feeling as he put everything on the line, displaying his vulnerabilities with complete honesty, and I fell for him a little bit more.

I could have done better the first time around and loved you right from the beginning. I could have made better choices and been more succinct, and maybe I would have had you forever.
But if I had, I wouldn’t know how empty I felt without all of it. Without you.
I’d have missed the lessons.
I’d have missed the journey.
Hell, Lucky…I’d have missed the fall.

After the podcast concludes, we jump to the present and the pace really picks up. I felt Lucky’s pain after everything that happened in the first book and I couldn’t wait to see her reaction to Ollie’s words. It’s emotional and heartwarming while adding her own kind of humor to the story. She is a hot mess and over the top in the most entertaining ways and it lightened the nerve-racking moments that Ollie and Lucky face.

In the end, Ollie and Lucky are perfect for each other and I loved their declarations of love. Even though the final chapter and bonus scenes put the biggest smile on my face, I do wish there was more to their reunion. Overall, The Day the Jerk Started Falling was a great conclusion to the duet, and I loved Max Monroe’s unique way of storytelling.
