Blurb

Every family has a black sheep – even the royal ones.

In the royal family of Denmark, that black sheep is me. To the public I’m known as Princess Stella, but I feel anything but royal. As a single mom, divorcee, social outcast, and forever forgotten about under the magnetism and power of my older brother, King Aksel, I’m used to being an outlier. Though it doesn’t matter when my whip-smart nine-year old daughter, Anya, is my whole world anyway.

Then that world of mine gets turned upside down.

I meet Prince Orlando of Monaco, whom the media has dubbed “The Royal Rogue” for many good reasons. I can’t stand that arrogant smirk on his face, the lewd words that leave his lips – pretty much everything about him. I especially can’t stand how infuriatingly sexy he is and how he manages to get under my skin like no one else.

It’s been a long time since a man could make me feel that way, so you can’t really blame me for throwing my willpower out the window and succumbing to a brief but torrid affair with him, full of hot, dirty sex and nothing else.

Until that nothing else turns into something more, in the form of a big surprise.

I thought I got that wicked royal rogue out of my system but there’s a link between us now that neither of us can ignore.

A baby.

3.5 royally knocked up stars

A short, sweet, fast-moving read with a healthy dose of steam, this book features a royal single mother, a royal playboy, a whole lot of dirty talk and a surprise pregnancy.

This is the fourth book in the Nordic Royals series, an inter-connected standalone, and is the story of Princess Stella of Denmark (younger sister of King Aksel from A Nordic King), and newbie to the series, Prince Orlando of Monaco.

Princess Stella has pretty much flown under the radar in terms of her role in royal life, and she’s happy living out her life in the south of England, a divorced single mother to an adorable nine-year-old. But whenever her brother and his family leave the country, she has to step in as royal regent, and she’s doing just that when the royal family of Monaco decide to stop in for a visit.

Prince Orlando of Monaco has a lot riding on his royal shoulders – the future of his entire country is dependent upon him marrying and producing an heir – but he tries not to think too much about all of those expectations and focusses on enjoying his life. He is accompanying his family on a trip to Copenhagen when he lays eyes on Princess Stella, and it’s lust at first sight.

His lips curve into a soft smile. “What do you want, Your Highness?” he repeats.
“I’m not sure I can explain with words,” I admit slowly, meeting his eyes. “I’m not even sure it’s a want. I think…I think it might be a need.”
“I can work with that.”

It’s only a matter of hours before Orlando and Stella hook up for a mind-blowing quickie that rocks both of their worlds, and begins a secret but seriously hot hook up that lasts while Orlando is in town. Unfortunately, it ends badly, but it’s not the last they will see of each other when Stella discovers that their sizzling tryst left her pregnant.

“We both have roles to play, roles that were handed to us. But they don’t have to define us. And they don’t have to contain us.”

I enjoy a surprise pregnancy, so as Orlando and Stella are brought back together to confront their new reality, I was right on board for the ride. They have some pretty significant hurdles in their way, and a bit of soul-searching to be done, but the love story unfolds really nicely. The feels are there, the sexy time is smoking ,and it’s just a matter of them figuring themselves out and finding their way forward. There’s a bit of drama and angst that goes along with that, but on the whole it’s a pretty easy read.

“Deep inside, we know each other, Stella. Sometimes time isn’t a factor at all. We’re one and the same and I’m in this with you. I promise you I am.”

Aksel and Aurora from A Nordic King appear pretty heavily, and I loved seeing them and their family again (including Snarf Snarf the pig… now not so little), and seeing Aksel as the protective big brother was just gorgeous. I loved Stella’s daughter, adorably precocious little Anya, and Orlando’s family are fantastically entertaining.

It’s a fun story, but it’s really fast-paced, so there’s not a lot of depth there with either the characters or their romance, but for a quick, fun read, it works, and I enjoyed this one.

3.5 stars.
