Nicholas Hunt is the man I hate.

For good reason.

His opinion of me is tainted by prejudice even before my arrival at his grandmother’s estate, and my first impression of him is just as abysmal.

His arrogance and icy demeanor make it clear that he’s the type of man who’s best handled at a distance.

Fortunately, space shouldn’t be an issue inside this Gilded Age mansion and its lush gardens. If I stick with the servants and he keeps to his sailboat and vintage Porsche, we should hardly cross paths at all. Unfortunately, at Rosethorn, I find that all roads eventually lead to Nicholas Hunt.

Sparks fly as we spar at the dinner table. Fighting words are flung in the shadows of the palatial halls.

We hang suspended in our hatred of one another, painfully oblivious to the heat and tension that build with every moment we’re left alone. We’re liable to kill one another, I think…right up until my eyes land on his lips and a new feeling grips hold of me: lust

What’s worse?
He knows it.

They say you should keep your enemies close, but when Nicholas tightens his grip on my waist and draws me near, I’m not sure if it’s out of loathing or love.

One thing’s for sure—I intend to find out.

Review

5 stars!

Maren has had a difficult life. After losing her parents when she was thirteen, she grew up in foster care and group homes. She is a hard worker and knows how to stretch a dollar but she still struggles to make ends meet. The world seems against her and she can’t catch a break.

Nicholas is a lawyer from a well-to-do family who grew up with his grandmother who he loves fiercely. He is very protective of her and is skeptical of anyone who enters their lives. When his grandmother, Cornelia, hires Maren to work at the Rosethorn Estate, Nicholas is far from happy.

The way he looked at me across the ballroom—it’s like he hated me upon sight. Is that a thing? People drone on about love at first sight, but what about the opposite? Can someone lay eyes on a stranger one time and decide on a whim to hate them forever after?

Nicholas doesn’t have a problem letting his hate for the new girl show; however, when lust and love make appearances too, he must decide how he really feels.

I loved Love the One You Hate! I easily devoured this unputtdownable love story. It has everything I love in an enemies-to-lovers romance – sizzling chemistry, fantastic banter, a heroine who can hold her own, and hero who can admit he’s not perfect. It’s a love story to fall for that will fill your heart and make you believe in happily ever afters.

I adored Maren! She is a good person and a breath of fresh air with her sweet nature and kind heart. She just wants to be herself and she doesn’t give into what people expect. She didn’t let her past or where she comes from make her jaded, and I loved that about her.

Nicholas was a jerk in the beginning but what it boils down to is his love for his grandmother. He is overly protective of her, and even though his hateful attitude is unacceptable, it comes from a place of love so I get it. And I love that he knows when he is wrong and he owns it, determined to make it right.

Maren and Nicholas are fantastic together. They give as good as they get and the banter is epic. This story has hilarious moments, intense situations, and butterfly inducing moments. There’s humor, heat, and heart, and no over the top angst. It’s a slow burn romance and I believed the progression from enemies to lovers. I loved how Maren holds her own and finds her place in Nicholas’ world. I adored Maren and Nichols together and loved how their love blooms.

“I wanted to become just like everybody else.”
His eyes flit up to mine, holding me captive.
“You’ll never be like everybody else.”

It is so much more than just a romance. It’s about growth and finding out who you are and who you could be. It’s about overcoming your past, discovering your future, and following your dreams. It’s also about the people who come into your life and change it in ways you can’t imagine, and I loved that Maren is given a chance by one such woman.

Cornelia is amazing. Her kindness and wonderful heart brought tears to my eyes. I loved the relationship between Maren and her, and everything they were to each other. They complement each other and become true friends.

“I’d keep you with me forever if I thought it was for the best.”

The other secondary characters are great, too. Nicholas’ friends were a hoot, and Tori was also good friend to Maren. I would love to get some of their stories!!

Overall, I loved this book! The epilogue was wonderful and it gave me everything I wanted and more. It was the perfect ending to a 5-star read!!
