4 extraordinary stars!

Wow. I’m not too sure what I can say about this book without spoiling anything, but what a unique and intriguing read! Full of the drama, romance, laughs and amazing characters that Hoover writes so well, this is a love story with a difference, and it had me absolutely captivated.

Leeds and Layla met and fell into head-over-heels love. He’s a musician feeling a little bit lost, she is a wildly quirky girl who brightens his world. They fall into an easy and blissful life together and they know that they will be together forever. Until a tragic attack changes everything. Six months later and Layla is no longer the girl that Leeds fell in love with. Desperate to help her recover and recapture all that they have lost, Leeds takes Layla away to the B&B where they first met. But things are about to become even stranger.

Enter Willow, who is also at the B&B. Leeds is immediately intrigued by her, and the two of them form an unexpected friendship. But when it comes to Willow, there are more questions than answers. And as Layla continues to deteriorate and Leeds and Willow grow closer, Leeds desperately searches for a way to help both of the women in his life.

I’m not going to say anything else, because you just need to experience this book. Written entirely from Leeds’ perspective, it is twisty and unexpected, and though I had predicted the storyline, there were still some surprises and shocks along the way. It’s very cleverly written, and done in a way that truly makes you feel for the characters, which is good because there will be times in this book where you will hate them all. But don’t judge too quickly – they are real and they are flawed, and they are in an unbelievably difficult situation – it’s best just to sit back and embrace the rollercoaster that this book will take you on.

“The only thing Layla did wrong is fall in love with me.”

I was completely hooked from the very beginning of this story, and the further I got into it, the more intrigued I became. The book was promoted as a paranormal, but it’s not paranormal in the traditional sense, there are supernatural elements, yet it is still written in a way that feels so real. Perhaps more just alternative than your standard contemporary romance.

We all know that Coho has a gift for writing, and she’s delivered a dramatic, intriguing, sometimes heart-stopping read that kept me captivated right until the very last page. It was different and unexpected, which I really appreciated, and I enjoyed losing myself in this extraordinary, thought-provoking love story.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Brian Pallino, and he does a great job telling the story. He is absolutely Leeds, and in the midst of the tumultuous ups and downs he makes you feel everything right alongside him, and I think I was able to tolerate things a bit better with his voice in my ear making my heart ache for all that Leeds is going through. I definitely recommend listening to this one.

Such a great read. 4 stars.
