4.5 stars!

The third and (I believe) final book in the Night Rebel series, this is another rollercoaster of action, excitement, badass supernatural powers, and sexy and intense romance. It’s full of excitement and fun, and I loved the ride!

This book is absolutely not a standalone. It’s a direct continuation on from the first two books in the series. I did a reread of those books before I started this one just to make sure I remembered everything, and I’m so glad I did because there was so much I had forgotten and I may have been a bit lost without the recap.

The end of the last book brought a twist to Veritas and Ian’s story, and we dive right back into this book to explore that further. To my surprise, the story didn’t go in the direction that I was expecting, and I loved the twists and turns as I was kept on my toes, never knowing what to expect next. Though they have already defeated the bad guy, a new threat has emerged, and when they are literally forced into hell, an evil is unleashed that will take all of their power, and that of their friends, to save the day.

This is such a fun read, full of all of the excitement and playfulness that I love about Jeaniene Frost’s paranormal series. Ian and Veritas are full of awesome powers, and they have plenty of opportunity to put them on display. But there’s a deeper, emotional story as well as Veritas finally starts to accept her true nature, and continues the fight against the injustices she has faced in the vampire world. She’s also coming to learn that she’s no longer alone and that she has people she can rely on, and that’s a really sweet journey for her. But best of all, she and Ian are standing strong in the middle of it all – committed and in love, but still figuring the dynamics of their relationship out, and I loved seeing reformed manwhore, Ian, loving, supporting and fighting to be by Veritas’ side through it all.

It’s a great mix of emotion, action, badassery and romance, with a kickass cast of characters as the whole Night Huntress crew come on board to save the world, and I loved catching up with characters that I love so much and seeing them all together once again. Plus there’s a scene-stealing new character that brings a whole lot to the story, and I’m so hoping that we get to see more of them if there are any future books.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Tavia Gilbert, and she does an amazing job. She nails the accents, and when you have Ian, Veritas, Bones, Cat, Mencheres, Vlad, Spade and Denise all in the one book (plus everybody else) and all with different accents, she does a fantastic job keeping them all apart and true to the character voices she established in the earlier audiobooks. This is a great book to listen to.

I loved this one. Ian and Veritas have a great love story, and this book finishes everything off for them beautifully.

4.5 stars.
