3.5 short and swoony stars

This is the first book in the Adventures in Love series, and it’s the kind of read that I have come to expect from Aurora Rose Reynolds – fast moving, intense, swoony and sexy, with very little angst or drama, and a satisfyingly happy ending. It’s such an easy and enjoyable book to read, and it’s a great start to the series.

Cybil has just been dumped by her fiancé, and now she’s heading off to a couples retreat in Montana without him. It’s a wilderness getaway that she booked to try and help their struggling relationship, but she figures she could do with a chance to get away and try something different, so she heads off on her own.

Tanner is an ex-military man who built the wilderness adventure company with his two best friends. His job is to guide couples on a week-long hike through the mountains of Montana, teaching them and protecting them from the dangers of the wild, but otherwise keeping to himself. But when a single woman ends up on one of his tours, he teams up with her so she’s not left out, and finds himself feeling all sorts of things that are inappropriate to feel towards a client.

Cybil is immediately capitated by her handsome guide, and as they talk and get to know each other during their wilderness adventure, she finds herself unexpectedly falling for him. And it’s clear that he’s feelings things for her too. Neither of them expected an attraction, let alone love, but they find themselves falling for each other regardless. When the tour is over, Cybil stays in Montana for a bit longer to see if they can give things a try, and their chemistry explodes into a passionate and intense romance that takes them both completely by surprise.

But their lives are in different parts of the country, and while Cybil still has to get closure on her last relationship, Tanner’s job isn’t really cut out for a new one. They’ve got a bit to figure out, but they’re committed, and neither of them are prepared to let the other go, so it’s drama and angst free as they sort it all out and plan their future together.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a quick and easy read, and after being introduced to Tanner’s friends Blake and Maverick, I’m excited to read more in this series.

3.5 stars.
