He’s mine … don’t ever forget that.

Milo lives in the barn, a cowboy through and through.
I live in a castle, but I’m not a princess.

When the only person who loves me dies, Milo’s there.
As I get older, I no longer look at Milo like a big brother. I look at him like the man God made just for me.

With the first glimpse of freedom from my pathetic excuse for a father, I imagine a future with Milo. I dream of the day when we won’t have to hide our feelings.

But Milo has a secret. He is not free.
The man I love is marrying the woman I hate.

Review

5 “you have me” stars!

Wow! Jewel E. Ann has delivered another unforgettable read that has given me the biggest book hangover. You never know quite what you’ll get when you pick up one of her books but you do know it will be packed full of all the feels. She throws curve balls and have a way of completely gutting you before finally making you whole. Her stories take you on an emotional rollercoaster and this one is one angsty ride.

If this is Love is a forbidden, age gap romance that pushes the envelope. It has a storyline that I would usually stay far away from (the whole they love each other but he is promised to another) yet somehow Ann has crafted a romance with this trope that is so consuming and unputtdownable that is it easily makes its way onto my favorites shelf.

This book is extremely emotional. There is so much pain and heartache that I got to the point where I didn’t know if I could take any more yet there was no way I could stop reading. It’s just that good.

“Indie, if this is too much for you, too unbearable, too cruel … the we stop. I’m not sure something is always better than nothing. Sometimes, nothing hurts less.”
Taking a step back, I hug myself and lean against the wood beam where he hangs his hat. “It’s too late. It’s already something, and it already hurts.”

Indie and Milo are amazing, resilient characters. They go through so much to be together and nothing is easy for them. They love big and love each other so completely but everyone and everything are against them. My heart broke with every moment they spend apart and even some of the moments they spend together. I wanted to scream and throw my kindle at how unfair everything was. Indie’s family was just awful and I wished them the worst. I couldn’t believe they treated her the way they did.

And then there is Milo. He was such a wonderful guy inside and out and he cared so much for Indie. My heart hurt for him. All he shouldered and why he did what he did gutted me. I cried for him as a boy and as a man. I wanted him to know unconditional love and that is exactly what Indie gave him. They fight for each other and in the end, everything is worth it.

Overall, I loved this book. Indie and Milo buried themselves in my heart and I couldn’t let them go if I tried. I know I will relive their story over and over again when I need an angsty, unforgettable love story.
