Release & ARC Review: The Lies We Tell (Iron Outlaws MC, #3) by S. Cole

The Lies We Tell by S. Cole (Scarlett Cole) is live, and damn, what a read!

The third book in the Iron Outlaws MC series, this is Saint’s book, the club’s much-loved preacher who in the last book (spoiler alert!) turned traitor. It’s a dramatic and emotional read with a heartfelt, wildly sexy love story, and it’s a fantastic addition to the series that had me hooked from start to finish.

Briar:

Escaping the men who would traffic me to a stranger was meant to be the end.
Until I fall into the arms of Saint, the man who would become my saviour.
I can’t think about justice, not while I feel so broken.
But as Saint glues the pieces of me back together, I realise all we truly have between us is lies.
Lies threatening to detonate to all we love.

Saint:

I no longer recognise myself.
Am I Ryker? The man who has no place in a criminal organisation?
Or am I Saint? The proud preacher of the Iron Outlaws MC?
I thought I knew who the bad guys were until I became one of them.

Now I only know two things for sure. The moment Briar fell into my arms, my world tilted. And the only way out of this mess is to reveal who I really am and pray we survive the vengeance the club will seek for the lies we’ve told.

5 stars!

Damn, what a read!

The events of this book overlap with the last one, which ended on an explosive twist. We get to see the build up to that big moment from Saint’s perspective, the impact of it, and the aftermath, and it was everything I was hoping it would be. I’ll keep this review vague to avoid spoilers.

We saw Saint and Briar meet in the last book, when he saved her from a group of human traffickers. But what we didn’t see was that after he rescued her from danger, he took her into his home to protect and care for her. Briar was left understandably traumatised and terrified after her ordeal, and though the big burly biker should frighten her, she finds herself clinging to him as her only refuge, and we see the sweet side of Saint come out as he looks after her beautifully.

I cup her cheeks and catch her tears with my thumbs. “My world is messy, sweetheart. But you want to come home with me and stay for a little while, I’ve got you.”

Despite all she’s been through, Briar can’t help but fall under Saint’s spell, and he’s feeling it right back. Their passion for each other is crazy and intense, but more than that, they form an emotional connection that is absolutely beautiful, and they fall easily and naturally for each other in a gorgeously swoony romance that owned my heart!

“I have a history of falling head over heels too quickly. I’m scared I’m doing the same here.”
“Then let me fall first, Briar. I can catch you when it’s your turn.”

But Saint is a man torn between two worlds – who he should be, and who he wants to be. He’s a good guy at heart, and never planned to join an MC, but that’s where he’s ended up, and with the club and his new brothers, he has discovered his true self. He now knows what he wants, and who he wants to be, and it’s liberating and satisfying in ways that nothing ever has been before. He is revelling in his new life, but still very much tied to his old one, and he’s battling between the two.

His situation seems impossible, and now that he has fallen for a woman that he knows he won’t let go, it adds another layer of complication to his already messed up situation. It’s a mad tangle, and though I knew where it was going, I didn’t know what was actually going to happen, and watching it all unfold had my heart pounding. It’s exciting and dramatic, and the intensity of it continues even after the big moment, and I couldn’t put the book down!

Briar is right there with him through it all, which I loved. She could have easily been overlooked in all of the chaos and against such a big hero, but she stands strong as her own character. I loved how she supports Saint, and is strong for him, yet she allows herself to be vulnerable as well. They are open and honest through it all, and they really are perfect for each other.

Being set in an MC world, it’s a rough and brutal read at times, but I revelled in it and was glued to my kindle! And then that ending?! Holy sh*t, I could not believe it! The second epilogue which gives us a hint of what’s to come in the next book had me actually shrieking out loud. What a genius plotline, I cannot wait for that story!

This is a fantastic read! I loved the drama of the MC and Saint’s journey to figure out his life, and the love story is so, so beautiful. The two storylines blend together wonderfully, and the book ends in a great place.

I absolutely loved it – 5 stars!

Meet the Author

The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada where I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.

I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I’m getting the chance to follow that dream.
