Breaking News: Rugby’s bad boy marries his best friend’s little sister

If Renn Brewer would’ve asked me to marry him, I would’ve said no.

Why?

One, his reputation precedes him. His name is in the headlines at least once a month. Two, he’s not just my brother’s best friend. They’re teammates. And three, I’m in my self-care era.

Unfortunately, a version of me equates self-care with bad choices.

The cocktail in my hand—similar to the one that got me into this situation—is the prettiest shade of pink. It’s almost the same color as the giant rock on my left hand. And instead of discussing an annulment, I’m considering a 90-day marriage of convenience to the man I accidentally married in Las Vegas.

Renn didn’t propose marriage. But he does deliver a proposal I might be unable to turn down.

“This might be the best mistake I’ve ever made.”

This is such a fun read! A brother’s-best-friend, accidental marriage romance that is sweet and sexy, with a gorgeous love story. I loved it!

Blakely is in Vegas with her best friend, celebrating her 30th birthday and embracing the opportunity for some much-needed self-care. Her weekend plans are upended when her brother (who just happens to be sort-of-dating her best friend) and his best friend and rugby-playing teammate, Renn, crash the party. And not only that, but a few cocktails turns into a madly drunken night, and Blakely and Renn wake up married.

There was already a fun dynamic at play before their inebriated nuptials. They have known each other for years, and are sort-of-frenemies. They tease and banter, he is fun and flirtatious, she pretty much dismisses him as a troublemaking player and snarks back. But there is an undeniable attraction there, so the marriage is off to an interesting start. But when the press get hold of the news, all hell is about to break loose.

They’ve both been tormented by the media before, and given the interest in their story, they agree to not immediately annul the marriage. Instead agreeing to make it look like they married for love to get the press off their backs. They agree to stay married for 90 days, during which time the interest in their marriage will die down, and they can divorce. But as they settle into married life together, everything changes.

If Blakely were anyone else, I’d have her bent over the bed by now. Then again, if she were anyone else, I wouldn’t be this messed up about it.

It’s a great set up, and the story plays out beautifully! It’s fun and flirty, and OMG the chemistry is insane! I could feel the attraction between these two, and they hold nothing back in making the best of their situation, just diving on in and exploring it. Their lusty feelings for each other have been building for years, they both know it, and it’s explosive when they finally give in to it all. And more than just sex, they just genuinely have a good time together. They tease and laugh, they are playful and affectionate, they’re both right in it, and I was right there with them for every moment of it, and I loved them together!

“I love her, guys. Somehow, I must convince her we’re the real deal – the forever kind.”

Of course they have drama to face, but they do it honestly, and they don’t hide anything from each other, and I loved watching the story unfold as they fall so deeply for each other and figure out what they want their future to be.

There are cameos from some of Locke’s other series (including the elusive Foxx Carmichael, which was a real treat). I loved Blakely’s brother and best friend, they are such a fantastic addition to the story, and I loved the introduction to Renn’s huge family. I’m hoping this will become a series, and we’ll get to know his siblings better because they are such an intriguing bunch.

I loved this book. It’s fun, sweet, sexy and beautifully romantic.

4.5 stars!

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by John Lane and Avery Caris. Possibly new-to-me narrators (I certainly don’t recognise their names), they do a great job with this story! I really enjoyed listening to this one.
