Review

Love, love, love this book!

And warning – this review will be a little spoilery if you haven’t read book 1 yet – Halfway to the Grave.

Taking place four years after the ending of the last book, Cat is now an agent working for a special branch of the FBI – working with her team of awesome badasses to lure and take down bad vampires, just like she was taught all those years ago.

“I didn’t even bother with small talk. I just elbowed the pretty blonde he’d been speaking to aside and slapped my panties on his chest. “As soon as I saw you,” I purred, “I knew I wouldn’t be needing these.”

Hilarious, but who really cares about that, right? It’s all about Bones. Where is Bones? Why isn’t Bones here yet? When is Bones going to come back? Just like Cat, I love that master vamp and missed him like crazy! But, believing she did the right thing in leaving him all those years ago in order to protect him, she trudges on with her lonely life without him, never forgetting her one great love.

Until… “Hallo, Kitten” … He’s there. Oh yeah, he’s there! And their reunion is epic – filled with longing glances, jealousy and violence, and all of the awesome banter and smutty teasing that they are so good at. And the best part of it is its realistic! The love and lust is still raging between them, but it takes time to sort through their issues and figure out where they’re going. And it’s all awesome!

“I’ve been looking for you every day since you left me, Kitten, and I’m sick of being without you. You’ve had your shot at things, now let me have mine … You still care about me, and I certainly haven’t given up on you. We can beat the odds against us, if you’d give us a chance to.”

Bones is still absolutely incredible! Madly in love and deeply committed to Cat, he puts himself right out there and refuses to let her get away from him again. And Cat is now older, and a little more grown up. Still feisty, brave and a total badass, she seems more mature now, and with Bones back in her life she comes to accept who she is and what she wants, and she finally has the strength and confidence to claim it.

And just to prove how awesome they are together, we get the infamous chapter 32 – Cat and Bones’ epic night of hot and dirty sex – complete with multiple orgasms (one lasting 20 minutes), ripped sheets and a broken bed. HOT!

“God, Bones…some of that was depraved.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” He closed the distance between us. “I love you. Don’t be ashamed of anything we did, even if your prudery is on life support.”

But it’s not all about the romance. Cat’s life is in danger, and Bones is right there to track down the people that are after her. It’s an exciting storyline that blends violence, action, and some sensational lessons in vampire politics. And it all leads up to an epic finale bringing Bones together with Cat’s team – God, I love them all together! The dynamics are sensational!

“You called her Kitten? And she let you? She put me in a coma for three days when I called her that! My balls never recovered from her smashing them into my spine!”
“And well she should have,” Bones agreed. “She’s my Kitten, and no one else’s.”

Introducing Ian, Mencheres, Annette and Denise, as well as Cat’s team, this is the book that sets the scene for the rest of the series, and it’s awesome! The action, drama, comedy, romance and an increasingly awesome paranormal world all works together brilliantly to create an intense yet fun read.

I loved every minute of it! 5 stars.
