Review

ABSOLUTELY, FREAKING SENSATIONAL!

“It sucked – sucked worse that people who pirated books, sucked more than waiting a year for the next book in a beloved series, and sucked more than a brutal cliffhanger ending.”

Well now, I don’t know about that Jennifer L. Armentrout, I don’t think much sucks more than THAT brutal cliffhanger ending. WTF???? I cried, I screamed into a pillow, and then threw said pillow across the room, and I still can’t deal. I knew there was a cliffhanger, I knew it would be hideous and that my heart would break, but still, with the emotion poured into those last few pages, I can’t believe how truly horrifying it was when it all unfolded. OMG, WHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?????

Anyway, on to the review…

“You really shouldn’t trust a soul in this game. Not when everyone has something to gain or lose.”

And that, right there, was what kept me madly flipping the pages. The action was intense, and the romance was absolutely gorgeous, but there was so much going on, and I didn’t know who I should be trusting, or what was going to happen. It was an absolute rollercoaster, and I love every freaking minute of it!

There’s really not much I can say that won’t be a spoiler (for this book, or the previous in the series – Onyx), just know that it picks up pretty quickly after the events at the end of Onyx, and all of the little threads of storyline are picked back up and woven through the book beautifully. There is more of everybody and everything that we loved about the first two books (three, including the novella), but it’s all so much better because the intensity of the story just concentrates the awesomeness.

The big difference though, is that Daemon and Katy are officially together, and it’s AMAZING!!!! They still have the snarky banter, and moments where they irritate each other (well, moments where Daemon is irritating), but they are an incredibly realistic and functional couple with a very strong bond between them, and their love for each other shines through all of the drama that they are going through. The wicked UST is still there and Daemon throws around a lot of innuendo, but he also shows a beautifully sensitive and caring side, and is absolutely committed to Katy. And his protectiveness of her is gorgeous!!! I loved reading about them together, and seeing the development of their relationship since their first meeting in Obsidian. There is still quite a lot of growth that goes on for both of these characters, both individually and as a couple, and it was all just perfect! So much SWOOOOOOOON!!!!

I will admit that I was terrified to read this book knowing the ending was bad, I was going to wait until closer to the release date of the next book – Origin. But I have to say that (heart attack and minor mental breakdown aside) I am so glad that I read it, and I can’t wait to read it again! It’s a fantastically written book with humour, romance, drama, action and intrigue. I felt like I was experiencing everything right alongside Katy, my heart was pounding through the whole book, and I could not put it down. My suggestion – find somebody to read this with you, or at least somebody to rant to while you read. You’ll need it! (thanks Brenna!!!).

Oh, and just in case Origin isn’t going to be exciting enough, I’ve just discovered that it’s going to be in dual POV – both Katy and Daemon. AND, she’s promised to give us the ending of Opal in Daemon’s POV. WOOHOO!!!

Jennifer L. Armentrout – as pissed as I am with you at the moment, you are a freaking genius! Love your work!

5 sensational stars!
