5 stars!

I’m a huge Kate Stewart fan, and for some reason this series flew under the radar for me for a long time, but I’m so happy I finally made time for it, because this book is so freaking good! A hilarious and heartfelt sports romance with unforgettable characters, full of banter and chemistry, I loved every moment of this one!

Alice has packed up her life and moved to Charleston in search of adventure. She’s a pilot who has taken a job as a flight instructor, and she’s excited and determined to live her life to its fullest – that includes attending her very first baseball game, where she is quickly sucked in, and the attractive pitcher catches her eye. Rafe is a local minor-league baseball star. He has the talent to go to the big leagues, and he’s waiting for his call up, and in the meantime, he’s focussed on his game with no time for any distractions. He spots Alice in the stands during his game, and when they run into each other at a bar afterwards, they get the chance to chat and they’re both enamoured with the other, but with Rafe focussed on ball, he’s determined that they’ll just be friends.

Rafe offers to show Alice around his hometown, and she enthusiastically agrees, which begins a series of hilariously awkward and cringe-worthy experiences where Alice shines in all of her clutzy glory, and Rafe thoroughly enjoys every moment of it. He has a phenomenal sense of humour, and is kind and completely accepting of Alice’s clumsy awkwardness, and I loved watching these two grow so close.

Their friendship is easy and natural, they are free to be completely open with each other, they get each other, and they flirt, tease, and come to care deeply for each other. And underneath is all is a raging attraction that they openly acknowledge but try to ignore, until it becomes all-consuming, and they can’t keep their hands off each other.

“Rafe?”
“Yeah?”
“Why me?”
“It could only be you.”

OMG, these two are so freaking hot together! They’re feeling everything, which makes the sexy time all the more intense, and they are so freaking amazing together! They’re funny and sexy, sweet and swoony, they mess up and they fight and they make up, and it all feels so real, and so right. They are there for each other, they support and encourage each other, and they’re the most amazing couple.

“No end. No end, Alice.”

Of course Rafe stole my heart. He’s sweet and fun, and he cares so deeply, and he’s a fantastic romcom hero. But it’s Alice who stole the story for me in this one! She’s smart, charmingly enthusiastic, hilariously, awkwardly relatable, and a self-declared geek and lover of all things 80s. She openly and determinedly searches for her happiness, and her sweet nature just shines off the page, and I just adored her

I laughed so much at the antics of these two, and loved every moment of watching them come together and find their groove. They do have some challenges to face, but they do it together, figuring out their HEA, laughing and loving each other the whole way.

This book is such a fun time, I highly recommend it.

5 stars.
