4.5 “Lily 2.0” Stars!

Out of Plans is the second book in The Merceneries Series. Stylo Fantome delivers another action packed story revolving around the lives of Lily Brewster and Marc De Sant.

This book picks up where Best Laid Plans ended. If you have not read the first book, stop here. This will contain spoilers from Best Laid Plans.

“I wanted to be on your team,” she whispered, then cleared her throat. “You didn’t want me. I had to find someone else. You’re right, he and I are good together. But you and I … we could’ve been great.”

After being abandoned, Lily is filled with so much hurt and anger. Not ready to give up on her goal, she decides to track down Kingsley Law knowing he has the resources and knowledge to help her.

She had to do it to get herself back. To prove it to herself that she was good enough to accomplish any goddamn thing she set her mind to.

Lily and Kingsley spend a lot of time together and a wonderful relationship forms between them. Kingsley is great. He teaches her to be a better fighter, to crack safes and pick locks, and pushes her to be the best she can be. They work hard with one thing in mind – her goal. After months of planning, she feels like she will finally get her revenge, all while trying to forget Marc and her feelings towards him.

Marc De Sant has been trying to do right by Lily to protect her. He’s hurting as well and constantly thinking of her.

Leaving her had been hard enough. One of the hardest things he’d ever had to do, but he’d done it for a reason. It meant something. He’d honor that. He always held onto that notion. To that justification. That by getting vengeance for her, he was making leaving her worthwhile.

Though the motives for his actions were clear to him, not everyone sees it that way. When they finally run into each other again, Lily lets Marc know that she is still pissed off.

“No one asked you to do any of this shit. You just took it upon yourself. You just ran away and decided to solve a problem that wasn’t even any of your business…”

“I thought you’d understand,” he grumbled,…”

“Then you thought wrong.”

Of course, they are going after the same thing and find themselves working together again. Just as before, it proves to be difficult and nothing seems to go their way once Marc joins the team.

Fuck me, De Sant really is bad luck.

Lily is a stronger woman in this book. She kicked ass in BLP but she is even better now. She has worked so hard to prove her worth and she has come to terms with who she is.

I was always this person. It just took me a while to figure it out.

She holds her own against the bad guys and can keep up with Marc and Kingsley.

Out of Plans is a fast-paced, suspenseful book with tons of action and great banter. I love Lily and Marc as a couple.

“You’re perfect to me.”

Better than revenge. Better than diamonds. It was everything she’d ever wanted to hear from him.

The Epilogue was sweet and it cracked me up with their antics. I also loved getting a closer look at Kingsley and the relationship between him and Lily. I can not wait for Kingsley’s book!
