“Life is full of hard choices.
I chose you.”

Following on from Love, in English, this companion novel finishes off Vera and Mateo’s story beautifully! It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, they have a lot they need to deal with, but this book does a wonderful job at showing just how far they’ve come and how much they’ve grown as a couple as they hold nothing back and fight hard for each other and for the future they so desperately want together.

Taking place about a year after the ending of Love, In English, this book is in Mateo’s POV, and he takes us back to the events at the end of the last book, as we see exactly what he went through during that intense and sometimes painful time and then on into the future.

Having been reawakened by having Vera in his life, he is excited for a new challenge, and when a new career opportunity puts him in the celebrity spotlight once again, he and Vera come under even closer scrutiny from the harsh press, which puts them both under a tremendous amount of pressure, and triggers all sorts of hell for them. And OMG, it’s all so unfair!!! So much stress, so much heartache, and all caused by circumstances beyond their control. My heart broke for both of them and yes, I even got teary at the emotion of it all, but I loved how their feelings for each other never wavered. They are together, they are madly in love, and they are strong. They just have a mountain of crap to wade through.

Life doesn’t always hand you things in a neat package. It dollops them out here and there in messy, confusing splatters, and when you see something amazing, you better drop what you’re doing and hold on with two hands.

I loved that Karina Halle chose to write this in Mateo’s POV. I have to admit, I missed Vera a bit in this story – I love her as a heroine, and even though she obviously is a major player in this book, the majority of the story is Mateo’s internal monologue, but I really like his voice. Of course, the scenes where he and Vera are together are a highlight, but I loved getting to see Mateo’s side of the story, and just how much he gave up when he turned his back on his old life for Vera. I didn’t appreciate all that he was going through during the last book, so this was a real eye opener for me and my heart broke for him and all that we went through. But it just makes his relationship with Vera all the more special because of it.

There have been many risks that were worth taking and many times that we have fallen, but we always fall together. Our journey has never been easy. The only thing easy in all of this is my love for her. It is pure, it is simple, and it is true.

Once again, Karina Halle has brought the emotion, and even though this is a quick read, it is an intense one! Watching all that Vera and Mateo go through just because they fell in love and made the decision to make a life together seems so freaking unfair, and parts of this story broke my heart. The cruelty and judgement that they faced was awful, and the consequences of it all were devastating.

Spoiler

“You’re breaking me,” I tell her in a ragged whisper. A tear rolls down her cheek and she doesn’t bother to wipe it away. “And I’m already broken.”

But their belief in their relationship and their conviction that they belong together was beautiful to see, giving this book a ‘love conquers all’ sort of feel, and made it an absolutely beautiful conclusion to their story.

“You are mine,” I tell her, kissing her behind the ear and breathing in deeply. “And I am yours. I belong with you, and you belong with me. I don’t care which country or where or under what stars but without you, I’m only me.”

If you loved Love, in English, you MUST read this one. I loved it!

4 stars.
