A beautiful continuation of an incredible love story!

Well, 10 years has passed since the clusterfuck ending of The Education of Sebastian, and our swoony hero is now all grown up, and more drool-worthy than ever. And he’s grown from the sweet, romantic 17 year old that I fell in love with into a hot, arrogant, sex-god with a chip on his shoulder (oh, and he’s also a Marine). It’s enough to induce shivers!

Caroline has also come a long way. Finally free of her asshole husband, and living the life that Sebastian gave her the courage to fight for, she is a freelance journalist, and is headed off to Afghanistan to report on the war. She runs into Sebastian 2.0 while in training to enter the warzone, and the two have a very intense reunion.

Despite the strong bond definitely still there between them, Sebastian is carrying a lot of anger. He was left destroyed when Caroline left, his life spiralling way off course. He is now a Chief in the Marines and, despite being a total manwhore, is living life on his terms, but he still blames Caroline for not coming back for him.

“Three years I wanted for you, Caro. Three fucking years, while you were off building your career and having a great life travelling all over the world. So yeah, I fucked some women who deserved it, because I’d already been fucked over once and I wasn’t going to let it happen again.”

OUCH!!!

Inexplicably drawn together, despite the animosity between them, Caroline and Sebastian have some very intense moments of reconnection. Their attraction is still very strong, but there is a lot of murky past that they need to wade through. But, as expected, it’s all very real and honest, and I loved watching them sort through everything and rediscover each other.

“I haven’t changed how I feel. I still love you – I’ve always loved you. It’s only ever been you.”

I got completely swept up in their love story, yet again, as Sebastian and Caroline spend time together, old feelings are reawakened, and they learn how to be together in a real relationship – both as adults this time. And the passion between them is sensational – whether fighting or loving, they feel very strongly for each other, and there is a whole lot of swooniness and sexy time. I may have even squeed out loud on several occasions 😛

But they both have a job to do, and when their jobs call them both to Afghanistan, the story takes a very different turn, and more heartache is headed their way.

I really enjoyed this book. While, for me, it didn’t have the intensity of the first book, it’s still a fantastic follow up, and I loved seeing Sebastian and Caroline’s story come full circle. I loved seeing them together and dealing with their issues, and I had a few teary moments as they opened up to each other, and the extent of their pain became clear. And the added action coming from the war brought some additional drama and excitement to the story, which I thought was a great twist.

While I loved the happy ending, there were a lot of threads left undone, and I would have liked more of an epilogue to see exactly what happens for these two…

Spoiler
What happens to Sebastian after his recovery? What does he do with his life? Does Caroline continue reporting on the war? And babies… are there any babies????
But, that’s probably just me being an obsessive reader looking for my ‘all tied up in a bow’ ending. They still got their HEA, and I still loved it.
Note – the combined ‘The Education of Sebastian & The Education of Caroline’ paperback contains additional content that answered all of my questions and gave me the satisfying ending that I needed for these two.

I read these two books in two days, and have LOVED Caroline and Sebastian’s journey. I love these characters, and their truly incredible ‘against the odds’ love story, and I know I will read these books over and over again.
