“I knew that we were going to be a dangerous combination. Bad things were going to happen if we spent too much time around each other.”

HOLY HOTNESS! Tristan and Danika are ON FIRE, and I loved every minute of it!

5 huge stars!

Having met Tristan and Danika in the Up In The Air series, I knew that they had history, but OMG, I never would have imagined the depth of that history, and here we get it in sensational detail – hence my gushy, quote-filled review.

Set before Up In The Air, Danika is a 21 year old live-in nanny/dog walker/housekeeper/whatever to a fabulous family that she loves dearly. She has escaped a nasty past and is fantastically sassy and sarcastic, and I adored her from the very start. And things get interesting very quickly, when uber sexy and charismatic manwhore Tristan moves in as a temporary houseguest.

Instantly attracted to each other, they soon reveal that while Tristan doesn’t do relationships, Danika doesn’t do casual hook ups, and so begins their sensational, chemistry-filled, flirty friendship. Both of them are straight talkers, and they don’t ignore their attraction, instead they’re open and honest about it, just choosing not to act on it (*snort*). But there is sensational banter and very sexy flirting, and as the two of them dive into each other’s lives and quickly become the best of friends, it’s seriously hot and freaking hilarious.

“You were being a tease. I’d recommend you not start playing that game with me.”
“Is that a threat?” he asked, sounding all sorts of intrigued with the idea.
“It is. Don’t start a war you can’t win, my friend. In the battle of the teases, I would whip your slutty ass, you sex fiend.”

“It’s ironic that I’d use you for my wingman, when I want to fuck you more than any of the women here.”

Holy freaking UST! The build-up is incredible, and the more they fight it, the harder it becomes to resist, and I loved every single moment of it!

“Tell me not to kiss you,” he said, when his lips were a breath away from mine.
“Don’t kiss me,” I told him, my voice a breathless rasp.
“Mean it,” he said, crowding me into the corner of the pool.
He tilted my chin up with finger.
“I can’t,” I gasped.
The words had barely left my lips before he was kissing me.

Phew! It’s not a quick hook up though, it takes time, and a few slip ups in their “Friends Don’t” rules, but it all adds to the chemistry, and so when it all finally explodes it’s hotter than all hell! Tristan is a bit of a control freak in the bedroom, and has a filthy mouth, my kindle was sizzling!

“I want you to let go. I want you to submit. I want to make you lose your mind. I want you to be so far gone that the only word left in your vocabulary is my name.”

“I’m going to fuck you hard on the hood of this car, in the pouring rain. And. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It.”

HOTNESS!!!!!

But they both have issues stemming from their past relationships and this brings the drama as Danika falls harder and harder for her best friend (who can blame her? I was totally gone for him as well!), and Tristan has to figure out what it is he actually feels for Danika, and then deal with the intensity of those feelings. My heart broke for both of them as they struggle to deal with their expectations.

“You’re fooling yourself if you think I don’t have those feelings for you, Tristan. I’ve fallen in love with you.”

“I know what you taste like,” I interrupted, my tone harsh. “I know how it feels to have you come against my tongue. What it feels like to have you clench around my cock while you lose your fucking mind. And you, you’ve tasted me. I’ve shoved my cock so deep down your throat I felt your tonsils, Danika. Are we going to forget all of that?”

The emotion in this book is incredible! I honestly wasn’t expecting to be drawn in as much as I was. I love these characters, and with dual POV, I felt everything right along with them, and I swooned and squeed as they fell hard for each other. Of course I wanted to smack Tristan “Mr Slutty McSlutFace” a few times, but I could understand what he was going through, and I never felt that either of them were behaving stupidly. Through it all, you can see how much they love each other. Of course, Tristan doesn’t realise that, but his protectiveness and jealousy over Danika is absolutely sensational, and he had me in tears when he finally started to realise what he was feeling.

“I want to be with you. I’ve made it way more fucking complicated than it needs to be, and I want to un-complicate it. I’ve no right to ask it, but will you give me the chance to prove that I can be better than I’ve been?”

Plus, the man knows how to grovel, and OMG, don’t we love that!!!!

He nuzzled his face into my ear. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I’m so sorry I hurt you. I’d take it all back if I could, but I can’t. I will try to make it up to you, though, okay? Please, just give the chance. Please.”

It’s not an easy ride for them, and they do find their way forward together, but the circumstances were certainly not what I expected. It all unfolds amidst my heart breaking over other events in the book. And the whole thing culminated into an emotional bomb that leaving me a sobbing mess. Gutted, absolutely gutted.

“I don’t have a word for this, because I’ve never felt this before. But I do love you. I just wish there was a way to explain to you that love is just the start of it, because it’s turned into so much more for me.”

Plus, having read the Up In The Air series…

Spoiler
I know that they are not together in that, so I’m reading all of the beautiful swoon and declarations of love knowing that something is going to tear them apart again, and I’m so devastated by what the future is going to hold for them! And I think knowing what is coming makes it all the more intense, because everything they say to each other brings on so much more meaning when you know that a break is coming.

“Sweetheart, listen carefully, when I say that I don’t need anybody but you, what I mean is that I never have. I need you. I’ve never needed anyone or anything the way I need you. I need you in a way that would break me if I lost you. Being with you makes every part of my life better. Every second I get with you is the best second of my life. I’m not good at expressing myself, not like you are, but I treasure this thing between us. Don’t think I don’t.”

*sniff*

I love this book. I love it hard. Tristan and Danika are both incredible characters, and I loved every moment of their story. It ties in beautifully with Up In The Air – we even get to see a bit of James Cavendish, and the fabulous Frankie – and I will definitely be doing a reread of those books so that I can bask in the complete story. My emotions are still all over the place after finishing this book at 2am this morning (and then offloading to friends about it until 3am), but I can’t wait to continue on with the series.

“You’re so perfect,” I murmured to him as we came up for air. “I can’t believe you’re all mine.”
His laugh was rough and breathless. “I’m as far from perfect as a person can get, but I
am all yours.”

5 hot, bantery and swoony stars.
