I loved this book. An exciting, intriguing and unique romance with suspense, twists, epic sexual tension and a wonderful, chemistry-filled love story. It’s a quick read with lots going on, and I was hooked from start to finish.
Olivia Barton’s world flips when her fiancé goes missing while on a business trip to Miami. When, months later, a hired PI tracks him down to a small town in Columbia that has recently been ravaged by an earthquake and tsunami, she decides to travel down to search for him and get answers.
Badass-for-hire, Thomas, responds to Olivia’s call for help, and agrees to act as her guide through the hazardous jungles of South America. Gruff, broody and absolutely deadly, Thomas sets up their cover as a traveling husband and wife, and takes charge as they enter into the danger of the unknown.
She had decided chasing after a man who’d jilted her was a worthy reason to put herself at risk. So here I was. I’d protect her body – she was responsible for her heart.
And so they begin a scary yet exciting adventure through the wilds of South America. It’s a completely new and scary situation for Olivia, but she takes on the challenge like a champ, impressing and surprising Thomas. But even more surprising is the visceral attraction that simmers between them – a draw that starts off as physical, but that becomes so much more as they talk, open up and get to know each other, and they quickly find themselves feeling things they never expected.
“I didn’t make the rules, sweetheart, but I’m damned well going to play by them. And if you want me to do the job you hired me for, you will too.”
Sweetheart?. “Got it, honey bunches,” I mumbled… He shot me a glance over his shoulder, that miniscule lip quirk taking me off guard again.
I loved Olivia and Thomas together! They have a connection that is hugely entertaining, and they both try so hard to fight it, but their chemistry is almost palpable and the sizzling tension between them adds a delicious twist to the story.
“It’s not even natural how much I want you.”
And though their attraction has them both questioning everything, they have so much more to worry about than what is happening between them. And as they face danger, devastation, twists and turns, life will never be the same again.
This is a great read and I was captivated from start to finish, desperate to see how it was all going to play out. It’s exciting, sexy and emotional with characters that you can’t help but love, and the ending had me madly flipping pages to see what was going to happen. And the cameo from one of Mia’s previous books (one of my faves!) was a gorgeous treat. It all ends really well, leaving me with a big goofy grin, and I loved it!
